Mental Health Valium + Wellbutrin (bad idea?)

Hey everyone. I'm a 44 yr old male who just completed 28 days in rehab for alcoholism/benzo abuse. It was pure hell at first but luckily i was able to find a dr thats helping me taper from the benzos using Valium after cutting me off cold turkey in rehab (i almost went into a full blown sychosis from that). My anxiety is starting to lift, but ive had a few days of severe crippling depression the likes of which were from the pits of hell. I dont do well with SSRIs or anything that messes with my sertonin. I want to try Wellbutrin but im still early in my benzo recovery and dont want to jeopardize my already fragile state of mind by taking something that is known to induce anxiety. Has anyone here had any simular experiences or tried Wellbutrin. Im currently only taking 5mg Valium 2x day as I taper off. (Just a note - ive never been diagnosed with mental illness until i started abusing alcohol/drugs in my 30s and my ultimate goal is to get back to that original state however unlikely that may be )

Did your doctor recommend it?

I used to be on wellbutrin, and it helped immediately. It ultimately boosts dopamine, and for that reason has a lot weaker but similar effect as cocaine, IME. It can induce anxiety, though, but the valium may counter that.

Mention it to a doctor and see what they say. It helped my depression immediately.

I think that stimulating substances and remission from abuse of GABA-promoting drugs is a bad idea. More so, because Wellbutrin lowers the seizure threshold independently of its ability to stimulate otherwise.

Why not try an SSRI? There are lots of them, and some SNRIs.

This is kind of an example of people using extremely basic psychopharm. to self-prescribe, like it or not.

i have a hard time taking ssris but have been able to take remeron/mirtazipine no problem. it does not create the on edge feeling that you get when titrating an ssri. it’s an extremely gentle medication, in my experience.

i’m also not sure it does anything other than make me hungry. ssris are a ball of side effects, but on the plus they’re gonna flatten your depression once you get to high enough of a dose.
