Hello, I am new here and I was researching Valium before I came across Bluelight!

I have a question regarding Valium (Diazepam) 10MG. I have tried using the search however, I could not find my answer and I read the sticky's also.

I have been taking Valium for almost 4 Years however that has been on and off. The first time I ever took it I felt amazing! All my stress and anxiety was gone for a short period of time. Anyway it has been 6 months since I last taken valium and I took some yesterday (30MG to be exact) and I felt great again it relieved me of my anxiety for a social situation. However today I took the same amount and I felt absolutely nothing !! I didn't think this is how medication worked? sorry I don't know much about Valium or any other medication to be exact lol. So I'm just wondering what went on with that? Do i have to wait a period of time for valium to work again? if so how long?

Thank you in advance!

(forgot to mention, I took the valium orally I didnt consume them under my tongue, if that helps any?)

That would most likely be tolerance to the drug setting in since youf body seems to be getting accustomed to it, thus requiring a larger dose to yield the same effects as before. This is a sign that you should be mindful of how often you're taking it and if possible take an extended break from them if you can, the longer the better.

Note that tolerance doesn't ever go away completely and please be wary of dependence it can sneak up on you rapidly.

Also, take sublingually (under the tongue) next time I've found this works best.

Cheers Thou! would you be able to recommend a time limit i.e 2 weeks before taking them again to relive my anxiety? as Valium is usually my only hope for social anxiety. I have tried Xanax, however, I blacked out and I don't want to experience that again. I just need to relive my anxiety for social situations. However, thank you for your response :)

Valium has a rather long half life so two weeks seems reasonable assuming you're only taking them sparingly for what I'd call 'emergency' type scenarios where you need to be socially apt (job interviews, public speaking, death in the family etc.)

I think more importantly is to strive for a state of being whereby simply knowing you have the valium stashed nearby will give you the confidence to perform socially and avoid taking it.

I don't quite feel comfortable recommending how often you should use them to be frank I'd say once every few months in emergency situations would be ideal if you can stick to that and not go over. If you're getting them from a doctor I'd consult them about these issues.

Thou, Thank you for your response. My doctor has prescribed me Valium 10MG. In social situation I become sweaty, hot, anxious and a fear of embarrassing my self (yeah I know that sound crazy :( but i'm not) I just find it awkward in social situations. However I only take them when I know I have to face a social situation, and today I had no effect on the Valium which made me very anxious at my meeting. Is there any other medication which would be more reliable for this kind of situation? If you can recommend any then I may be able to speak to my doctor about it and see if we can find a better solution.

Thank you very much for your time and response Thou :)

If you're only using them here or there I'd suggest a shorter duration benzo like ativan or xanax in small doses, but I'd really ask your doctor about it he'd probably say the same.

You should try mediation one half hour a day and practice pursed lipped breathing to mitigate anxiety. Valium is more of a band-aid that helps while you learn how to do it without chemical intervention. If you don't already perhaps look into seeing a therapist to help your fear it sounds like just plain social anxiety.

Good luck. :)

Thanks Thou :) I will do just that! I will speak to my GP Monday and let you know how it goes it that's ok :) thank you for your time :)

All the best :)
