Valium and Stomach Problems/Cramps?

Thinking in outer space with my gobblins head
Hey, I did a search but couldn't find anything. Last week I was prescribed Valium, which I haven't taken in a long time (maybe a few years?). Anyway, I have taken it twice, once at a 5mg dose, the other at 2.5 mg's.

The first time I took it, I felt unbelievably relaxed, to the point where it was too much. This was pretty shocking, as it was only 5 mg's, and I'm not really a noob to the benzo class. With that relaxation came stomach cramps and just an overall uneasiness. So, the following dose, I tried 2.5 mg's. I, of course, didn't feel that relaxed but the stomach problems persisted.

Has anyone experienced such weird side effect with the drug? They are Teva made Valiums. Is it possible another brand could be more stable? I know Mylan is the common one for Valium. And, can anyone explain how I'm so sensitive to the drug? I know most people claim it takes them at least 10mg's to feel it. I am quite dumbfounded at the moment by all of this. Advice and thoughts would be much appreciated.

For someone with little tolerance, 2.5mg can be an adequate dose no doubt. I took Valium for two years on a soft stomach personally never experienced stomach upset when taking it, nor on any benzodiazapine. For the most part I only used Roche brand, but would get lesser generic forms from time to time.

You could try taking them sub-lingually (let the pill dissolve under your tongue). This will also cause the drug to take effect sooner as well (my preferred route of administration).

If you've only tried taking them on an empty stomach, I'd try it after a good meal. A lot of medicines require to be taken with food for fear of stomach upset.

Thouart, thanks for the response. Each time I took it, I did take it after eating breakfast. I will, however, take it sublingually as you suggested. Maybe a different ROA will change things.

The shit makes me so sedated, though. I am hoping that my body just needs to get use to it. Never experienced such problems with other benzo's.

Very Strange

Thats very strange indeed, it usually takes at least 20mg to cause any real effects for me, otherwise I can barely feel it.

Usually me and my friends would be taking it at the end of a big stim session to help with sleep and we actually take one or two if we feel sick (from not eating for ages or drinking on an empty stomach all night) and they actually seem to help! But everyone is different when it comes to drugs, and some people can have hypersensitivity to benzodiazipines, or atleast it includes "hypersensitivity to benzodiazipines" in the contraindicitions list on some xanax information webpage I saw somewhere! So obviously your not the only one.

Actually it's not strange. It's listed in side effects in the pharmacy hand out. Also it causes harsher menstrual cramps for some women.
