I have been on 70mg of Vyvanse for about a year for ADD. I like it -- it helps me with focus. I also suffer from General anxiety disorder and am on Pristiq. The Pristiq helps most of the time but once in a while my anxiety flares up and gets out of control. During those times I cannot leave the house and I become bedridden. I've been advocating with my doctor to get on a benzodiazepine to help with the anxiety attacks but he said with the Vyvanse it would pull my brain in too many directions. However, more recently I had another anxiety attack that was most severe. I asked him again and he capitulated. He prescribed 10mg of Valium. So far I have only taken Valium only once while on Vyvanse. I took it late in the day when the Vyvanse was tapering down. It was ok. I am wondering if anyone out there has experience of taking amphetamene and benzos. Can you take them close together? For example, if in the morning I take Vyvanse and soon thereafter I develop anxiety can I then take Valium? And thoughts or tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

70 mg of Vyvanse daily would give anxiety to a rhinoceros.

No it wouldnt.

Its not uncommon for people to be prescribed both a stimulant and a benzo. If you keep the benzo use to relatively infrequently, I dont see a huge problem.

Vyvanse is the most gentle stimulant in mainstream use. 70mg is not a low dose, but it's not very high either, maybe around 30mg dextroamphetamine, released over about 12 hours.

Taking a stimulant and a benzo at the same time does sound a little bit questionable.

Maybe if you didn't take as much Vyvanse, you wouldn't have as bad anxiety, so wouldn't need the Valium. On the other hand, maybe if you didn't take as much Valium, you would be able to concentrate better, and could lower your Vyvanse.

Have you tried any other stimulants or lower doses? Also, sorry if it's been mentioned, but is that all one dose or is that 70mg throughout the day? It IS a high dose either way, not unheard of or anything but do lower doses just not work? Everyone is different, so take my experience with a grain of salt, but that would be a pretty high dose for my severe ADHD, I could definitely get by on less. 70mg would be fun, but I'd have anxiety on the comedown for sure, but then again, amphetamines are usually anxiolytic for me while they're active in my system. That's why I was thinking maybe a different stimulant. This will probably be a horrible comparison but crack can send my anxiety into overdrive, whereas amphetamines do the opposite. I know those are fairly typical responses to both but if you haven't tried a non-amphetamines stimulant, it might be worth a shot. I also try to dose as low as I can to get symptom relief for day-to-day use. I'll dose higher when I need to get more done or honestly, as a treat sometimes, but I've found that I can get by on very little for simpler tasks like studying. If you can't tell already, I'm on a little too much right now lol. Otherwise I wouldn't be typing novels.

But to answer your question, yes, you can combine amphetamines and benzos at therapeutic doses. I do often. It's dangerous in higher doses (esp higher than you're used to) because of the OD risk-and blackout in the case of benzos- and combining uppers and downers isn't great for your heart. You won't feel the benzo as much on vyvanse but don't take that as a sign to dose higher on the benzos. That said, Drs rx the combo all the time, and Valium is pretty weak anyway. I'd reconsider daily benzo use unless it's your last resort though. It can also be a very addictive combo, it's much more recreational feeling than either alone imo.

my exp with addy and klonopin was a good combo, i know diff meds but in the same league
just enough of both to combat each others "side effects" but with the benefits of both
very nice calm state with tons of focus/alert without being sleepy/out of it, from the benzo nor to hyped up and none of the anxiety from the adderall
9 out 10 exp for me i wont give it a 10 because long term abuse...you're buying a one way ticket to hell once tolerance builds and when you go into WD

I took xanax with vyvanse and had no problems. I think my vyvanse was 60mgs and at one point split into two doses of 30mgs. But I mostly took the xanax as a comedown at night to be able to sleep.

Now I take adderal and klonipon and still don't have any trouble.

My doctors were never reluctant but I know many are because they're both highly addictive and have street value.
