using psychedelics for brain change

And that's not even limited to your brain! The whole world is forever in flux, if any state would ever be static then relatively there would be no way or viewpoint from which to distinguish two moments :D

OK what I'm really hoping for is something more definite from the OP, whatever Leary did or didn't mean. Markers & measures are good but does this actually prove that psychedelics bring about measurable changes?
Personally I interpreted what was posted as being more to do with a subjective counsciouness change than measurable activity - however it's vague enough for anyone to project their own preferences onto.

that is what i meant. a change in your baseline consciousness which hopefully would be advantageous in certain ways. for example, timothy leary recalling his first LSD trip writes:

Since that time five years ago I have been acutely aware of the fact that everything I percieve, everything within and around me is a creation of my own conciousness.

so it seems as if he is refferring to an enduring drastic change to his every day awarness following this trip despite the acute effects of the drug having long since worn off. i am wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar and has it been beneficial? could it even be something to aim for?

QFT, everybody's brain is constantly changing every second. It never stagnates into a set configuration for even a moment.

well i dont think i ever said that it wasn't changing every moment. i certainly didn't mean to imply that. but we humans can still attempt to change things that are already changing. it happens all the time. the difference is in the degree of change.

OK well thanks for replying. :)

I think that profound psychedelic experience can & does alter our consciouness.

Not all psychedelic experience is necessarily profound tho.

I think that in order to have a positive lasting effect on your consciouness you need to work out ways in which you can integrate your "insights" into your daily life. To have a profound insight and not to act upon it in real life is fairly common - at least it is/was for me & others I know. Once the penny drops the questioning begins. I questioned many many things - too many TBH - however overall consciousness change been pretty beneficial to me, permitting me to quit a 15 year addiction to opiates & to (eventually) begin to attempt to address various issues which I had not permitted myself to be aware of.
It's a trip and I'd suggest once embarked upon it never ends.
Psychedelics can shine a light into the darkness, perhaps the beam picks out a previously unseen path that could be trodden, who knows what lies down that path ? I'm curious so......

So yeah your quote from Leary rings true for me, irrespective whether those perceptions are internal or external.

I trust this is a suitable response to your question :)
