its not so simple to understand,
she walks on cracked pavement and rusted cans,
and she's broken, down,
yesterdays paper claimed,
for wet walls and roofing panes,
and she's of nothing but frown,

and it weighs her down,
it wears her out,

she lives for her fallen man,
a hero there he would once stand,
but now he's tired, and old,
and yesterdays pictures fade,
showing their age and say,
that they're failing, to show

it weighs her down,
it wears her out,

cracked china dinner plate,
and silver electrical tape,
means she's not going anywhere,
and she lets her chest rise and fall,
as she leans on the hallway door,
and she's crying cause he doesnt care,

that it weighs her down,
and it wears her out,

hahahaha. so heartbreaking isnt it. i cant write soppy shit anymore. that was from aaages ago, since im too lazy to write anything new for ya today. was written as a song not so muhc a poem. you can tell what music i was listening to at the time.

Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead, perhaps? ;)

Despite the obvious derivation of the piece as a whole, I think these lines are great:

its not so simple to understand,
she walks on cracked pavement and rusted cans,
and she's broken, down,
yesterdays paper claimed,
for wet walls and roofing panes,

cracked china dinner plate,
and silver electrical tape,
means she's not going anywhere,
and she lets her chest rise and fall,
as she leans on the hallway door,

In fact, if you took those lines and built on them, I don't think anyone would guess the Radiohead link. It's the repeating "chorus" that really gives it away.

most definately... hense the reason it was crappiola. i wouldnt have mentioned the obviousness of it if i was trying to hide it :D

I don't think the parts I've quoted are "crappiola". Far from it!

It's no sin to write something "after" another writer's work, whether it's inspired by the piece, takes its form from it, is an hommage, or whatever... but it's preferable that the link be acknowledged. Sometimes, if the link is glaringly obvious, or takes the form of allusion, then it may not need to be acknowledged (this is probably more applicable to the visual arts). Regardless, it can be a fine line to walk.
