lets not even get into that... but ultimately: it is completely irrelevant WHEN the "new millenuim" starts. There are umpteen million arguments both ways... but it doesn't even matter, becasue it is a man made event.
besides which... TODAY is the start of a new millenum, and so it tomorow, and the day after... becasue a millenium (by defenition) is just 1000 years...
but hell, any excuse to party eh? god knows that I'll be at another melenium party next year! I mean how many lifetimes do you have in which you can celebrate (legitimately) the dawning of TWO new millenia!?
