U.S. Marines Protect Afghan’s Poppy Fields

This is a good idea, at least temporarily. Afghan pomegranates are supposedly some of the best in the world, and are worth more per acre than poppies (for the farmer).

However the horrible soil conditions in Helmand are a big factor in why that area is home to the majority of poppies cultivated in Afghanistan. They simply can't grow any other crops successfully and consistently.

have you ever heard of a millionaire farmer? heroin worth thousands in your neighbourhood is worth pennies in the poppy fields of afghanistan. the army is trying to stabilize the region and drive the taliban out so that the farmers can make a peaceful transition to crops that would help feed the country instead of crops that can only feed warlords.

Google the writers of these articles. Most the time they are just quacks. I found an article that says the opposite, that we are destroying the fields. And its from a credible source.

I guess if all ya listen to is Alex Jones or other hacks who couldn't make it in real media, then I understand why so many are misled.

The real tragedy in America is how our corporations get what they want while people like us suffer. I live in one of the most violent cities in the nation and they put more people in jail for petty misdemeanors than they do for murder. Even though everyday when I wake up 4 people have been shot, or another 3 people have been shot. I could care less what they do in afgan. I wish they go after the bs thats tearing this nation apart.
