Ughhh ok this isn't really a drug..more a supplement. Anyone here have experience with tryptophan and do you experience headaches from it. I'm only on 200mg and its mildly effective for my mood, anxiety and OCD. I have improved quite a bit compared to not being on any other supplements. I do still take 1.6mg of celexa at night cause I am tapering, but I take tryptophan only when I wake up.

I really don't think there is an interaction as I have heard tryptophan itself can cause headaches but will it go away with time? It's been about a month.

Messing around with serotonin is bad business in general...

It can fling in either direction a lot of the time... Good mood or a nauseating puking cramping headache...

These are side effects...

I advise you to stop using it till you are completely tapered off of your celexa...

Really?? Even if it meant going from an depressed anxious mess who was unable to be home alone to now, not so depressed and anxious and able to let them go to the store mess? I was like a trembling dog with separation anxiety and ocd galore, albiet now I have headaches. Should I ditch that and take kava kava and NAC instead?

I tell ya those drugs are the devil to come off. I'm sure i'm not in withdrawal though considering i've been tapering for over two years. I truly believe these are original symptoms coming back. Do u have any suggestions for the anxiety??

Baicalin, Oleamide, Picamilon, Magnolia Bark Extract (Personal favorite), and taurine...

You can even do a combo... Mix and match. You got tons of non-addicting options.

I've not heard of tryptophan causing headaches. I really can't say that it's not the cause, but I'd guess there is another factor at play, and one that is perhaps unrelated and coincidental. Or maybe the headaches are a result of some secondary mechanism, like a by-product of the metabolic processes that convert it into 5-HTP and then that into 5-HT, or serotonin, which can be responsible for a wide variety of effects, both good and bad.

5-HTP gives me GI discomfort occasionally, but it's generally mild and short lived, and is a common side effect.

Is tryptophan the same as L-Tryptophan? I took the later as a sleep aid and it worked better than any ambien or benzos. Never got a headache but it certainly made me tired so I wouldn't think it'd be good to take in the a.m.

Yes. Everything works better than ambien or benzos.

I totally agree on the energy drain of heightened serotonin.

L-tryptophan just stands for levotryptophan. Dextrotryptophan is basically inactive and doesn't aid in the biosynthesis of 5-htp.
