Hi everyone ,
long time reader first time poster<
i have sum issues with anxiety and ocd and have abused drugs for a long time i have recently finished undergoing cgnitive behaviour therapy and have found sum releif to sum extent..im thinking of trying out a ssri to put myself in a better frame of mind to practise out the mthods of CBT.Im also aware of the drug interactions on ssris and think it may be a blessing in disguise for me as drug abuse may be a big contributing factor...anyway im just wanting to know what u all think any adsvice would be appreciated.

I bet you your doc will prescribe you in an instant prozac or celexa,Comeback and tell us how you got on,If it was me id take none and use willpower mate,I know its easier said than done but be strong drugs recreational ones dont reward you just maybe an addiction, less money, and alot more nasty stuff you get from abusing am not saying the odd occassion once a month imo is fine but using often is just going down to an unhappy life..!!

SSRIs are not that great as anxiolytics...maybe greater efficacy for OCD, I'm not sure. I'd give it a try but also exercise some introspective scrutiny after a few weeks, to make sure that the med actually helps.

Celexa (citalopram, in the US places like Target/Walmart sell the generic for only $4/month with a script) has helped me immensely. It has worked wonders for my anxiety --- I do find that I can't drink like I used to at all, and have pretty much stopped drinking entirely --- blessing in disguise really. Celexa is one of the better tolerated SSRIs out there with the fewest side effects...if you're mostly looking for relief from OCD/anxiety, it would be my suggestion.

Whereas I found it entirely inert once tolerant to side-effects. :)
Even though research shows SSRIs to exert a measurable but minuscule benefit for those with anxiety disorders, people react idiosyncratically.
