Exploring the outer limits with Halcion (triazolam)

5:20 PM- Ingested 2 mg triazolam in the form of 8 .25 mg tablets.

(I am writing this as the effects develop)

Halcion is by far my favorite benzodiazepine in terms of abuse. It hits me fast and hard, and produces a distinct "rush" that other benzo's don't.

5:25 PM
Nothing noticeable-yet...

Thinking about this saturday (rolling with some old friends; have not seen friends or rolled in about 5 months). Actually, I decided to do this experiment partially because I couldn't contain myself. MDMA is a mere 48 hours away; had to take something to mellow out with a short half-life (so my roll won't be affected.)

5:30
Feel that smooooth benzo fog rolling in.... already! Judgement impaired. Mildly euphoric. Turn on Purple by Gus Gus.

Decide to go for a .5 mg sublingual booster.

Virtually without taste.

Decide to play one quick match of CS

5:45
Feeling thoroughly inebriated. I think I will call these "Darth Faders" from now on. Decide to go for a quick walk around the block.

6:05
Made it back (somehow). Realized that I went walking in the pants I stole from the psychiatric unit. The concepts of anxiety, worry, and the future are completely alien. I feel anesthetized- ready for surgery!

No idea what the fuck to do...

6:45
Mostly a dreamy haze. Much confusion. Considering the (cautious) addition of ethanol.... Consume a few "swigs" of white wine and one swig of 10% alcohol solution (cough medicine). Ugh. I hate alcohol.

Some warm, buzzy feeling. Complete absense of sedation.

7:30
Decide to end the experiment with another "shot" of cough syrup and .5mg alprazolam.

Eeenteresting :) Thankyou for posting this, i'd not heard of halcion before. It looks like over at erowid that they do not yet have a report on this substance. Perhaps you should consider posting this over there.
:)

yeah Halcion is triazolam, a triazolobenzodiazepine derivative with an extremely short half-life. It is used as a sedative-hypnotic, and was very popular about ten years ago. Then it recieved a bunch of negative press, resulting in a sharp decline in prescriptions and a lowering of the maximum reccommended dose. Because of it's rapid onset of action, it is percieved as (and is) more abusable and desirable compared to other benzodiazepines.

As far as last night's experiment goes, I remember very little. I didn't to anything dangerous, stayed in my room most of the time, felt "good" but generally unable to perform any complex tasks. When I did decide to consume a SMALL amount of ethanol, (I pretty much never drink) it was really that-insignificant. It just pushed me towards the drowsy side.

In conclusion: Save your benzo's for when you really need them (insomnia, drug WD, anxiety, synergism with other drugs). They have little potential for anything special on their own.

No I have had a prescription for about 5 months (also have scripts for alprazolam and clonazepam). I have had extensive experience with most drugs of abuse- just never tried 2.5 mg of Halcion (a huge amount).

Force i use to have a bunch of the blue .25's. There were without a doubt the best benzo, and the only one i abused. Do you know why they are hardly prescribed anymore?

Yes. During the early '90s, Halcion recieved a great deal of pressure and negative media attention. Claims were made that incidences of psychotic behavior and next-day hangover were far greater with Halcion than with other benzo's. This, coupled with the drugs popularity on the ilicit market (due to it's abuse potential) drove many doctors to prescribe other, less desirable options (i.e., zaleplon, zolpidem, temazepam, and even sedating antidepressants/ antipsychotics.) You can still get triazolam, if you find the right doc ( I am lucky in this regard.)

Here is an article that may provide some info

Disinhibition, amnestic reactions, and other adverse reactions secondary to triazolam: a review of the literature
by
Rothschild AJ.
J Clin Psychiatry 1992 Dec;53 Suppl:69-79

ABSTRACT
In the past 18 months, there has been considerable controversy regarding the benzodiazepine triazolam (Halcion). To review data supporting or not supporting the assertion that treatment with triazolam results in adverse reactions more frequently than with other benzodiazepines, the author used computerized literature searches (MEDLINE, English language articles from 1975 to the present) to identify reports of behavioral disinhibition, amnesia, delirium, rebound insomnia, and withdrawal reactions on benzodiazepines. Studies of disinhibitory reactions during benzodiazepine treatment do not substantiate the argument that they are more prevalent with triazolam than with other benzodiazepines. The behavioral disinhibition reactions during treatment with benzodiazepines are associated with higher dosages and pretreatment level of hostility. Anterograde amnesia occurs with many benzodiazepines, but usually without changes in a person's normal activities and behaviors. The reports of anterograde amnesia during benzodiazepine treatment describe people performing rather complex tasks during which outside observers could not detect any unusual behaviors. The prevalence of delirium during treatment with triazolam and other benzodiazepines is unclear, but delirium is more frequent at higher dosages and in the elderly. Controlled studies regarding the adverse effects of triazolam on sleep are lacking. The author concludes that despite the considerable adverse publicity in the lay press, there is little scientific evidence that triazolam is associated with disinhibitory or other adverse reactions at a greater frequency than other benzodiazepines.

Thanks for the report! Appreciated!
Some interesting info in this thread..
:)

hmm.. its confusing - but the opinions on halcion in this forum is very mixed!

in some post people says that it has "no recreational value"
but in the posts ,like them above ,people call it "the best benzo" and "desirable"

now tell me - is halcion a good bensodizepine?
(if you want to handle comedowns, or just feel great in the evening)

Damn, 2mg IV, I bet that was nice. Did this occur illicitly or in a hospital setting.

If it was illicitly, how did you prepare the halcion? I might pick some up next chance I get. It's always interested me because of both the brand name and that it's strong and short acting, meaning it'll probably combine nicely with other depressants.

I imagine IV to be nice though...

it was illicit, but with a pharm. injectable solution
having a nurse for girlfriend has its advantages :)
