Hi Guys,

I am prescribed Mitazapine for anxiety and depression but I also take tramadol (400mg's not prescribed by the doc) on a daily basis. My question is will the tramadol affcet the way the Mitazapine works ie will it reduce its effectivness in any way ?

Also my doctor said if the mitazapine does not work he'll let me decide what AD i want to be on so does any one know of a good AD that gives you a nice high as all the ones i've tried so far take at least a week for them to take effect but i would prefer something that hit you straight away.

Any ideas?

Thanks

don't double post the same thread. i already replied to your other thread.....and ill copy and paste my response because once obviously isn't enough

tramadol antagonizes serotonin receptors causing involuntary firing of neurons which increases the amount of serotonin in the synapse, while mirtazapine acts as an indirect agonist by indirectly activating 5HT cell firing by the alpha-1 adrenoceptor thus raising extracellular 5HT levels. a probable result from the combination of drugs would be serotonin syndrome.

mirtazapine can reduce the likelihood of serotonin syndrome when combined with SSRIs, but tramadol is a serotonin releasing agent (SRA) and not a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. on the other hand, mirtazapine has no affinity to bind to serotonin, dopamine, or norepinephrine receptors, nor does it have the ability to induce/inhibit any other enzyme for that matter making it rather safe to combine with most drugs besides serotonergic drugs

however, the most dangerous interaction between the two is the blockade of 5HT-2c receptors, which is known to cause the seizure threshold to plummet. conscious tonic-clonic seizures are not fun, trust me...

tl;dr version: no, don't combine the two, the combination could cause seizures and possibly serotonin syndrome.
