At least 13 people were killed Thursday night when a tourist boat capsized in a southern Missouri lake as powerful thunderstorms passed through the Midwest, the state?s governor said on Friday morning.
The amphibious boat, or duck boat, overturned in Table Rock Lake near Branson, Mo., around 7 p.m. as winds exceeded 60 miles per hour. Cellphone video from a witness showed the boat taking on water and struggling to move as it was being pummeled with powerful waves before it sank.
The authorities said the duck boat had 31 people on board when it sank to the bottom of the lake and that four people were still missing Friday morning. Seven people, including three children, were taken to a hospital, Cox Medical Center Branson, and two of them, both adults, were in critical condition, the hospital said on Friday.
Divers resumed their search on Friday morning and recovered two additional bodies, bringing the death toll to 13 and making it the deadliest duck boat accident in the United States since 13 people were killed when one sank in Hot Springs, Ark., in May 1999.

Our thoughts are with your bosses family. That was a very bad storm by the looks. Those owners of the duck boat ( ripley's believe it or not) are about to have some legal troubles I believe.

I wouldn't ride one. There have been about 40 fatalities involving duck boats over the years. In addition to Hot Springs, one collided with a bus in Seattle killing 5 and another collided with a barge on the Delaware River in Philly killing 2.

A wrongful death lawsuit seeking $100 million in damages has been filed against the operator of a duck boat that sank on a lake near Branson, Missouri, killing 17 passengers. When the Ride the Ducks Branson amphibious vessel started sinking July 19, the canopy entrapped the passengers and dragged them to the bottom of the lake, lawyer Robert Mongeluzzi said Monday at a news conference. The passengers might have survived if the Branson operators had not ignored a 2002 National Transportation Safety Board recommendation that all duck boat canopies should be removed, he said.
