Well, out of around 15 or so entrants, we have finally narrowed it down to the cream of the crop so to speak :) MANY of you had solid mixes, ALL of you showed good potential in terms of how far you will take your talents...

the winners were chosen on technical ability, creativity, track selection, and overall quality and solidity in terms of being a dj and programmer of a set of electronic dance music. we did NOT take genre into account, and judged solely on talent.

I'd like to thank everyone who submitted a mix to me via internet or snail mail, I listened to all of them all the way through, most of them more than once...you were all rocking my car stereo or computer stereo this week, and I think you and all of the readers of the forum thank you for new music mixes

without further adu....................

here are the 5 finalists...these were the best in our professional opinion as dj's and producers (All 3 of us mix, write, and review music and mixes on a daily basis), and the judges were me, SethNichols, and Rabbi (Squirrel was not judging this, he was unable to be around enough the past few weeks to get all the mixes downloaded)...

in no particular order:

3rd Space
(mailed me a mix cd that just *rocks*...he needs to get a link to this online so the rest of you can hear)

I've been Djing for about 10 years, and right now have two residencies at clubs in the Mid West. I play everything from deep/prog/tribal/tech/breaks (not florida though, that sound is buuuuuurnt) and try not to sound like every other prog/tribal DJ out there. The tracks have to groove though, that's the main thing.

I just got done recording a set in conjunction with one of our nights - my "DJ name" is, well, actualy I DJ with one other guy, and we're called Child of the Beat. The mix I'm gonna post is one that I did by myself earlier this week, and it'll be up when I have found an MP3 converter to run it through (I'm kinda old skool, I like to cut my mixes to MD and then to CD) So if anyone knows where I can download one (OS X) instead of me having to find one, it would be cool.

I'm not much into blowing my own trumpet but here's a bit of background info for you: I'm English and grew up going to a club called Shindig in Newcastle, North-East England. Those that are "in the know" will know Shindig. That really got me hooked, but before then it was Orbital, Prodigy, Art of Trance and others along with Tongy's Essential Selection in the early 90's that all contributed to my love of the music. And wow how it has changed over the years.
So now I live in the States, and get to play in probably the two top clubs in Louisville, KY. (Did you know Louisville is now the 16th largest city in the country with over a million people?) Yep, the land of rednecks and good weed has us trying to educate the masses the best we can. The clubs are called Main St. Lounge and @tmosphere Nighclub, and they have set a new standard on how clubbing is viewed in the city. Things are finally starting to change!

Tr6ai0ls4 (DJ Unexist)
http://music.globalbeatz.net/dj-mix-mp3/1817
DJ NAME: Unexist

STYLES YOU PLAY: Drum n'Bass, Jungle, Reggae, Psy/Goa-trance, Psychedelic Drum Trance

STYLE OF CURRENT MIX: Drum n'Bass

HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN MIXING: 1 year using turntables, 4 years using software.

EQUIPMENT USED: 2 Technics SL-1200MK2, Stanton RM-3S mixer, and Final Scratch.

LOCATION: NYC Tri-state area

BIO: I have always loved music for as long as I can remember. I hear it everywhere I go, in the sound of a cars whizzing by to the beat of people walking or the repetative mantra of a subway deep underground echoing through the tunnels. It is this which influences me the most. The sounds of life itself. I have not become a DJ to just put on music at a party, brag about how many places I've been + girls I've had sex with, or how many famous people I know, but rather to express a message through a collection of tracks as not many, but one work of art. All that matters to me in this commercial world of egotistical unreal existance is having a voice and an outlet to express myself. I am your shaman, the vibe selector. The atmosphere is under my control and you are my inspiration. I can make you dance, I can make you think, I am what you feel as the music absorbs you whole and you become it. Let go of everything, unexist, and step into the music as I take you on a journey far away from reality into the world of the sound which life itself moves to, drum n'bass...

TRACK LISTING:

I'll provide it to whomever wants when the contest is over...

Unfortunately, my mix is only available to the mods of this forum, because the person hosting my mix(she was kind enough to do this for me) does not want a lot of traffic to her site. If you wish to download it, you can hit me up on AOL Instant Messenger. My alias on there is "Tr6ai0ls4", I will be more then happy to send you this mix. I will leave an away message up so anybody could leave a message and request it when i'm not here. If that is the case, set your preferences to allow downloads to go through without your permission that way I can send you the mix while you're not there, if you leave your screenname signed on. Don't worry I wont send any viruses, you're free to test whatever it is you recieve before you run it, or not to download it at all. You can also e-mail, or PM me and perhaps we can arrange some other way for you to get it.

Mystic Styles (DJ Jozef)
http://www.cableone.net/jstansfield/Late_Night_Groove.mp3
style: usually deep but play funky/tech house during peaktime sets on occasion
dj career: little over two years now
bio: live in a small backwards state (mississippi), and i am one of maybe three djs that play house in this state (everything here is dnb, hard house, fla breaks and progressive for the most part). I love bringin a new sound to the masses around here, and its starting to catch on. I usually tend to stay pretty deep on my sets, but i do like to play funky and sometimes tech house when the mood feels right. I record all my demos in one shot, no editing save boosting the volume a bit, i aslo don't believe in planning my sets, i pick out my intro, then play off the crowd.

i have multiple demos, but my newest one can be downloaded by right-clicking
HERE ,then hitting save as. This one starts very deep and ends kinda funky.

heres the tracklisting for it.

Rock Lobster

STYLES YOU PLAY: House; Deep & Soulfull to more Techier darker stuff

HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN MIXING: About 2yrs

LOCATION: Dublin, Ireland.

BIO: I started my ear wrecking hobby by purchasing a terratic soundcard and a gemini mixer about 3yrs back. I had intentions to start producing but also wanted to start learning to mix. So with that I started to buy some vinyl and digitised it. I learnt how to beat match using 'deejaysystem' which I still use today! Haven taking a year out to travel I got back into it earlier this year. I picked up my first set of decks in february and decided I really fucking hate vinyl
