Can you build up a tolerance to a certain method of smoking? ie pipe, blunt, etc

i believe you can. when i started using a waterpipe, I was a half cone stoner, thats all it took me.
These days it takes me about 5+ cones to get to that comfortable feeling. so i say YES you can build up a tolerance to different methods of administering ...... I don't know..... I forgot... if i remember i'll let you know.

You can build a tolerance to tobacco leaves, I don't know how you could build tolerance to glass.

^ That shit definately happens - my main method is the trusty bong when i'm around the house. And if I smoke a spliff outside with some friends it gets me waaay higher..it's weird.

I don't think there is any scientific evidence to prove anything even remotely close to this other than the glaring facts:

a blunt will get you higher if you aren't used to it because it's more weed than you are used to.
a bong will get you higher if you aren't used to it because you take a larger, cooler hit.
a bowl will get you higher because you aren't used to ripping a few bowl packs.
a spliff will get you higher because you aren't used to spinning your shit.
a brownie will get you much higher because you aren't used to oral cannabis.

see where I'm goin with this?

I agree with chainer3k, although for the reason posed above him. Psychological tolerance is a huge factor. I am talking equitable amounts of bud here, not 'well I get way higher when I face a blunt then when I smoke A few bowls'. No shit.

i constantly cycle my methods of administration to keep it fresh. i think it allowed me to be a "one bowl guy" for 5 years straight

There is what's known as 'conditioned taste association/aversion', where if you are used to something it will impact more/less.

Replace taste with place, & I can give an (uncited) example of a heroin overdose involving a just-married couple who shot up some heroin (usual amount) somewhere other than their living room (where they usually take it). Because of this novel stimulus, their experience of the drug was totally different (story told to me by my psych lecturer).

That's an example of how we all become 'used' to the ways we do things habitually, which as you can imagine affects drug users more than most.

What's also important is the 'rate of change', how quickly the THC molecules end up in your brain (obv bongs are quicker than joints, hence the difference).

I do think there is a qualitative difference between joints & bongs though, & nearly everybody agrees. You'll actually 'come up' over the next 10-15 minutes after smoking a joint, which I'd love to hear more about if anybody wants to explain it?

Seeing as how weed is basically a phsycadelic (sp?) I think when you're used to the way things work you learn to know what to expect. But when you really dont see it coming you can get lit off your ass on literally anything. Its all just a mind trip, wish there was more science behind it.

Different methods have different CBN and THC contents. Such as a bong smoke which is lower in THC but higher in CBN's... Or vapes where its lots of THC and not as much CBN.

Of course you can. I read this in psychology class.: Did you know heroin addicts have overdosed doing there usual dose of dope in a different environment. I don't remember the specefics. They said the ritual of preparing a shot in their usual environment warns there body of whats coming...

Maybe with cheap Vapes that don't have a temperature setting. A digital Volcano provides me with all the CBD I need anywhere between 170 and 190 degrees depending on the strain.

A lot of the CBD as well as THC is destroyed by the flame when using a bong also.

theres psychological tollerance, when your used to doing something a certain way, and change the way you do things you get higher because the ground you are on is unfamiliar

spot on. the more familiar your set/setting/method, the less stoned you're likely to get.
