So what are your thoughts???

Nowadays we are constantly being told that its bad to get any sort of tan at all.

When I grew up however haveing a tan was really cool.........and i still love getting out in Summer and getting well tanned.

By the end of summer Im pretty dark all over........well cept the vitals.......lol

Personally I think it looks nice........am i in the minority???

Should i just allow myself to stay this aneamic shade of white???

<3

I've never actually bothered getting a tan until this year.
Something just clicked I guess - - - and now I make a twice weekly trek down to the local solarium and sit under the buzzing lights for 7 minutes [I'm rather pale].

It's invigorating and rejuvenating and the whole place smells like coconut. I love it, tbh. :D

Makes me feel good - gives me an instant rush...and it's always nice to be a slightly golden tinge.

When I was a kid I would only have to be out in the sun for a short amount of time, and I'd be very dark and tanned. I never actually tried to get a tan, as it wasn't neccesary for a 10 year old to do this. ;)

These days I'm rather pale, but I don't really want to get any more freckles on my shoulders, nor do I want to stay out in the sun to fry. I tend to burn easier these days, although I can still go a nice shade of brown. So now I put on sunscreen and hope for the best.

I love being tanned! Last Summer I got ridiculously brown though and when I walked around in the dark my boyfriend said all he could see was a white ass and breasts [too much information? ya probably =D]

That being said, my mum just got diagnosed with another skin cancer on her nose and it's going to take four seperate operations to remove it and then reshape her nose so... well... maybe I should cut back on the whole baking myself in the sun thing.

I just feel so much healthier with an tan and you can always pick someone who is wearing a fake tan [even though last summer I used fake tan as well].

Ahhh well, my smoking will probably kill me before the sun does.

But I like my aneamic shade of white!

Tans arent really my thing, girls who get spray on tans are a real turn off for me, and think its pretty sad when a guy goes to a tanning salon, i dunno, i dont have this thing against girls going, but a guy? sorry, but i think thats pretty camp :\

PS: (off colour joke warning) MazDan, you should really make up your own mind as to whether you want skin cancer or not ;)

Think about what the old tanned people look like. Do you want to be a chewed walking leather cowboy boot?

I like having a tan. It makes me look significantly more wholesome.

And I have to say that on the whole I prefer dark girls as well.

I figure that if I get tanned in small amounts then I probably wont raise my risk of skin cancer all that much as I believe it is the really serious burns that are major risk factor increaser.

pale!!! be pale!! unless your skin is effectively transparent, it's never too pale.

much love

Spray on tan and tanning creams etc are shit. 2 of my ex housemates used to go and get sprayed religeously and it was horrid.

Apart from the fact that half the time you look orange, the crap that they leave on your clothes is just nasty.

Real tans however, I like, either from the sun or a tanning bed, as long as it's real UV (the good Cancer causing stuff!). Not when it's overboard so look like Wazza boot, but a bit of color is nice.

I would prefer to be at least bit tanned, since I've moved to melbourne I've become more "computer-nerd White" but now that warm weather is coming back I am getting back to normal.

I used to spend heaps of time in the sun as a kid and had tanned skin and bright white hair.... now I am more pale and my hair is a dirty blond colour (well now it's black, but thats not the suns fault ;) )

People acxtually spray tan on themselves????

Well u learn something every day.

No I do it the old fashioned way and get out in the sun.

It makes me feel so much healthier instead of sickly white.

Im positive it wont be long before they discover that not being tanned at least part of the year means ur more likely to get this or that disease.

I think a tan looks real nice but theres no need to over do it due to sun cancer. A little bit of sun every day is actually good for you but too much will kill you. Then again sun screens have chemicals in them to give you cancer aswell so your doomed. And i'm totally against solariums. I think they are vain and stupid. Sorry to those that go but again that's how i feel.

Tan = Good
Pale = Bad

Pale just looks sickly and unhealthy to me. When I am tanned I feel better and look better.

I love the Sun... Tanning up or surfing at the beach in summer - sure I could avoid that and look better in 10-15+ years time, but I would be missing out on so much that I enjoy.

Where is the proof of this? Please provide studies/links.

Skin cancer, schmin cancer... I'll worry about that when I get it.

I love tanning. Skin just looks better golden. Sure, there are plenty of "friendly" alternatives available now, but none that look as good nor last as long as the cancerous real thing.

Spray tanning is the devil. A friend of mine got it done last year... she looked bizarre and orange, and after about five days the tan started wearing away, making her look like she had some gross skin disease.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but that's how I feel too.

I don't stay out for hours, but in the lead up to summer, I probably spend 1/2 a day specifically sunbaking so I avoid getting totally fried the first time I go to the beach.

I've grown up on the beach and at swimming pools - you can't help but love the feeling of sun on your skin.

I think I look better with a bit of colour, as do most people.

If I'm going to be out in the sun for more tha half an hour I'm heading for the sunscreen. I find that I still tan a lilttle with 30+ on (and I buy the 4hr waterproof stuff), but then, I live in QLD. Part of the year I work outdoors and bury my skin under long sleeves, big hats, wrap-around sunnies and 30+. When I'm working in the office though I cycle to work, and that 20-30 minutes twice a day (early morning, late afternoon), plus the odd walk on weekends keeps me tanned up enough to look healthy without doing too much damage to my skin. I guess that's one of the perks of living up here, becaus eeven in winter you can keep a slight tan.

Sunbathing I have no time for. Besides from lining yourslef up for skin cancer (and I've seen the effects far too many times), it's a waste of time when you could be doing fun things and if you fall asleep you'll get fried! Be careful (there are far too many leathery old folk around already) and wear a light sunscreen while you're in the sun and you should tan up ok.

<- Uses Mystic Tan. Get in a booth for 14 seconds, get out and 4 hours later I look and feel absolutely wonderful. Ya'll are against spray tans, but it's looked really real all the times I've done it. about 2 months in between each time, I've always had great compliments from it too.

eh- to each their own. =D

Mystic Tan sounds a pretty healthy way to get a tan

One option is the Mystic Tan system, which sprays a tan onto an individual. No UV radiation is involved, which diminishes the chance of skin cancer. The Tan Company installed a Mystic Tan booth in February.

The Mystic Tan system contains three different components, including a bronzer to immediately dye the skin, dihydroxyacetone - an FDA-approved compound that makes the tan last longer - and aloe vera to help the DHA go deeper into the skin, which produces a better looking tan.

:)
