I remember trying to get high off coleus in my misguided teenage years before I could get better drugs. I’ve tried large quids of fresh leaves, teas of fresh and dried leaves, ethanol/acetone “hash” both smoked and oral and smoking dried out leaves.I've never had issues drooling with salvia personally, but a few friends I've introduced to it have complained of drooling an annoying amount. Funny to hear of that somewhere else too. Coleus didn't make the same people drool but it's a different kind of trip in a way, that plant seemed to prefer being chewed whereas salvia preferred being smoked.
I always wonder as people do report it being active (I’ve tried plants from a number of cultivars), as I’ve never gotten beyond the “I might be feeling something” level.
One other thing that kind of confuses me is I’ve never found reports of what compound is responsible for the supposed effects. As it’s in the lamiaceae family I would expect it to not be an alkaloid (though it’s more of a gut feeling).
Aren’t salvinorin A tinctures typically done in acetone due to solubility issues? Definitely explains the causticity.I never got into chewing the leaf but I did buy Sieberts "Extraordinary potion of enchantment" which was some extract he made with alcohol. Used it sibluingal but it used to take the skin off the inside of your mouth with the alcohol. Then I'd lay down and trip a little with my eyes closed.
