thiobutryolactone/GTB

Not sure if the sulphur would be in the equivalent place(?)... but saclofen (a sulphur analogue of baclofen) produces an antagonist as opposed to agonist at GABAb - I.e not a good thing.

I know the official record is for methyl mercapan, but I was under the impression that if you go down the periodic table, Selenium compounds are actually worse (but it's less volatile). I read of a scientist with 1g of the stuff in a vial (this was in the 1860s), he dropped it in the train and it was bye bye carriage. Nothing could ever remove the smell. They tried for 2 years (periodically)

Selenides are certainly worse, but tellurides are worse still (actually, the story you are referring to is found in Shulgin's PiHKAL, under the extensions and commentary section of #38 2C-SE.)

The problem with these is that once introduced into the body's tissue, they aren't readily metabolized, and can take weeks or months for them to diffuse through the skin before they are unnoticeable. At my previous university, there was a researcher working [briefly] on organoselenides... after a couple weeks, the project was permanantly scrapped, and it took several months before anybody wanted to be near him.

But the smell of mercaptans is not that bad (some even don't smell at all!) if you are a bit lab experienced, neither is cadaverin. You somehow can get used to it,at least to a certain degree.I knew one old chemist who actually enjoyed H2S smell...

Myself,I was even a bit dissappointed by Cacodyloxid ...

If you wanna know REAL stench chemicals, try Cyclopentanecarbonicacid and such (you'll get sensitized and hate it from the on even more!),or certain isocyanides like Methyl-isocyanoacetat,they CAN make you puke instantly, believe me!

shulgin reported that some aromatic mercaptan in the synthesis of 2c-t-x/aleph have pleasent floral smell.

someone who likes H2S , lol ! I work every day with TMA and now I really like its smell !!! I think that TMA smells like pussy !

Never smell isocyanid but long-chain carboxylic acid (valerianic, butyric, hexanoic,... ) have an unbelivable odor ! They smell of rancid butter or cat piss :p I don't Imagine their dithioacid analogues... But the worse smell I ever seen is still thioacetamid.

I think the thio GBL analogue has been discussed here before, I can't remember the details but it didn't look fun.
