Thinking about competing

I went for a walk and got a little bit of my motivation and I've always thought about competing just never really had the knowledge I wanted. First off I have used performance enhancing substances, but not in a year+ would I still enter a competition that doesn't exactly claim natural competitors? I've lost quite a deal of real mass and I know that in order for me to feel comfortable competing I'd have to turn my discipline and dedication systems back on and get to work! I would definitely wait a year, but during this time I'm going to try to absorb as much knowledge as I can.

Anyone fill me on some experiences with competing and what can help? I'm 6' 4'' and right now i'm down to 181 LBS as of yesterday. My stomach is acting wild and I'm on the decline again for my weight. I have always had an unusually low body fat majority of my life in comparison to my friends. If I use the body fat chart for men that has probably been passed around on different forums...

I sit on the high end of 7-8% except I have a lot more vascularity around my torso than that picture and a hell of a lot less chest development. I got pretty broad shoulders which I would assume would give a good v-tape considering my waist is 31''. I will post some pictures from when I was still working out to give a guideline of what I had. Pictures now would just be silly because I'm just a skinny carcass with a lot of definition. Most I have ever weighed in at was a little under 200 that I could maintain for more than a week. I've shot up above 200, but I think most of it was bloat due to the excessive caloric intake and testosterone.

Note: I played soccer my whole life. Also did cross country and track. Have always been trying to catch up with my legs. Calves are a lost cause.

Well done, you have a decently lean, vascular physique with some good separation when you're training Grym.

If you want to compete, you'll need to decide what type of competitor you want to be - your category - and slot that into a timeframe you can work with. Being tall, you'll struggle if you don't enter a specific class of some type. However this all depends on what's available where you live and each federation has different classes. Most will have beginners, juniors, classic, physique and fitness, all of which might be open to you. Again, given your height many competitors will opt towards physique or fitness because, compared to ankle-biters, you'll be sorely disadvantaged on the mass side.

First step (aside from getting back to training and eating ;) ) is to have a look at competitors in these different classes and decide what you want to do and what you can feasibly achieve in the short/medium-term.
 
Wasn't Paul Dillet freakishly tall with a hell of alot of mass? I always thought he placed so poorly because he was stiff as board and his posing was absolutely atrocious. I've always appreciated Dorian Yates kind of mass, but with a Shawn Ray concept to posing. Maybe a better one would be Frank Zane. Almost ballet. I definitely couldn't do men's physique or fitness because why would you not want to show off your wheels if you got them?

Considering a lot of the bloated hippos that are occupying the american competitions I would feel I got some leverage on my side considering my waist just never ever ever grows. It was originally 29'' when I graduated high school and the years of deadlifting my back off and finishing out my growth (Last X-ray still indicated my growth plates around my spine haven't sealed) only brought it up to 31''. I got 17'' arms, but because I got a noodle build they really don't look like much until someone wants to compare with me. I never measured my quads, but I know at my peak I had to make little cuts to all my boxers in order to wear them comfortably and bend over.
 
Go for a classic class then. Although you should check past beginners and juniors first, to see if you could do well there. This all depends what scope you're talking about my friend. It can take a long time to add a lot of quality mass. Dillet was 6'1"... Toney Freeman is 6'2". They are helluva heavy on stage though (closing on 300lbs contest condition).
 
Hmmmmm...I better start becoming best friends with trenabolone then! It is hard to judge what I can do after 200 pounds because I haven't really gotten there. From my weight during track days to my peak. that was close to 45 lbs gained over a period of 4 years? I guess that isn't too bad. I've done 4 cycles, but my first 2 were jokes because of how bad I messed up. I'd only consider 2 successful cycles underneath my belt.
 
Arms and shoulders. Physique would probably suit your build best honestly. I'm a shorter guy and fill out retardedly easy so bodybuilding is where I'm aiming. I'd say 5' 10"+ guys would benefit more in physique unless blessed with large bone structure and joints otherwise the mass just won't "look right" and the shorter guys will carry it better.
