Yeayeaaah!
We're baaaaaaack.....

The Red Sox are back in October, albeit limping in. Mike Lowell needs surgery and JD Drew has a hangnail. Beckett may not be 100% in time for his start which was pushed back. They face an Angels team which has vastly improved/matured since last year, and history don't mean shit when you look at it from today.

The Rays actually made it, and they go on to face a White Sox team which has all the momentum after their big win in the single game playoff against the Twins. This is talent vs. experience at it's best, and as the Rockies proved last year, there are no guarantees.

The Brewers and Phillies both teamed together to upset the Mets and knock them out of the playoffs. The Brewers have the momentum going in with some big wins down the stretch, but the Phillies took Game 1 with a strong performance from their ace Cole Hamels.

The Cubs and Dodgers. We all know about the Cubs curse, and LA were the recipients of the much maligned (at least in Boston) Manny Ramirez, who turned his season around for the best once landing in California. Will the curse continue to haunt the Cubs?

Oh and by the way, congratulations to Jerry Blunted who won the BL Fantasy Baseball league for 09. You can claim your prize in a free pack of dutchmasters any time, just bring something to fill it with!

What the FUCK was Dempster doing last night??? UGH. The Cubs are a better team and should not have lost, but what can you do when you load the bases TWICE with walks. :!

Hopefully Zambrano will shut them down tonight and pave the way for Lilly and Harden to clean up. Our pitching goes way deeper than the Dodgers.

I'll be at Wrigley tonight! =D

My team isn't in the playoffs, so I'll be pulling for the Rays. I've been predicting they would make the playoffs for a few years now (part wishful thinking, part truly believing that if they got some pitching, then they would have a good shot at making the playoffs) and finally it happened.

moving from Boston I have brought some of the Red Sox love with me. I want them to win but I just don't see it happening this year against an always talented Angels team. they are talent laden where it counts the most - at the bullpen and at the plate.

good for the Rays. it's always nice to see a team finally make it. they could be this years' Rockies, as Nickatina so expertly put it.

nobody our age is watching baseball. I feel as if America's past time is officially dead.

I'm not so sure about that, I think we can win on the strength of our starting pitching but only if Francona plays the matchups with his bullpen, something he hadn't done much of during the regular season. I look for a strong start tonight based on the aggressiveness of the Angels and the junk that Matsusaka throws.

I think you're right, baseball is dying as the ADD generation gets older. I'd say we had a surge when Big Mac and Sammy were going after the home run record, but since then the only thing to keep baseball in the mainstream has been the steroid scandal and Bonds' tainted record.

^ IMO, the season is just too long. MLB should end before the NFL season starts. Also, there should be a salary cap so the owners can't buy championship teams. The Devil Rays will be broken up next year, no matter what happens in the postseason. The Red Sox or Yankees will throw alot of money at their star players and that will be the end of their team.

CHICAGO—God, the divine creator and omnipotent deity, held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the infinite ways in which He could curse the postseason hopes of His least favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.

"I might go with an inopportune rainout or the classic error on a routine play. Or maybe I'll mess with the lights during a huge play in Game 7—that could be interesting," said God, who added that when it came to the Cubs, it was nice to stop moving in mysterious ways and take the direct-intervention approach for once. "My prophet Steve Bartman will certainly be a tough act to follow, but trust Me: Anything can happen. And let's just say that for the centennial celebration, it will be huge." When asked about His plans for mankind, God said He would "probably" allow our free will to decide the issue.

i'm a red sox fan and i'm always nervous when matsuzaka starts and i have no idea why. he has an 18-3 record this year and, in his 13 road games, his record is 9-0.

poor cubs :(

still, if the dodgers go all the way, the red sox have a chance to beat them in the world series and rub manny ramirez' nose in it...

prolly cause he wastes more pitches than anyone in the majors. i'd love to know how many time's he's gone from 0-2 to a full count this year.

You cats are on some good drugs. Don't you both know that baseball attendance has skyrocketed the past few years, and every season MLB sets a new attendance record? Why do you think player salaries are through the roof? Baseball is making big bucks right now. Whatever happened to contraction? You don't hear shit about that anymore.

Yeah but that doesn't mean that the age base is getting any younger. I haven't seen statistics, all I know is that most people my age would rather sit there with their thumbs in their ass than watch 9 innings of baseball.
