Hello, Within the last year or so dis guy I know was introduced to Dilaudid and loved it as it helped him with mild ADD and anxiety. I have a few questions:
1- Because his tollerance has built up, does this mean its harder to come off of? Id say for the past month he's been taking at least 24mgs a day, then maybe a few more at night. He dont really notice the high anymore, and now think he should give it up. He only ever swallows it. He's expierienced withdrawls before, when he was doing about half as much as he does now. no sleep, weird "swish" sounds when he moves my eyes around quickly. Cold sweats, discomfort in joints, and worst of all, all the anxiety he had escaped was just waiting for him in one big lump sum. It was a shitty few days, but he drank and took ativans and sleeping pills and it went away.
Is he in for a bigger withdrawl now that he's upped the dose and lenght? Will alcohal still take the edge off? Can you take sleeping pills and sleep it away? And if he decided to taper off, what exactley is the correct route of doing that?
He certainly would appreciate anyone who would take the time to offer some advise, He'd prefer if it was from 'someone who isnt him ;with expierience! Thanks!!

In previous years he's had to kick his onetime crystal meth habit on the road with his band in Europe. First two weeks of those tours he just slept, got up to eat and play, and sleep so much he now has back problems from it 10 years later as a result. He doubts that he's going to go through anything like that....at least he hopes....

Dilaudid = hydromorphone = a semi-synthetic opiate = opioid

answer to all your questions are very easily found here: http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/569872-The-Opioid-Withdrawal-Megathread-and-FAQ

Meth is NOT an opiate... meth withdrawal is nothing compared to opiate withdrawal, quite literally. Withdrawal will have a whole new meaning once you get off dillies for good. 24mg's a day isn't a small dose either. Good luck...

While 24mgs is a pretty big dose, the fact that you've been taking them orally will help, that has a pretty low BA with hydromorph so you've been taking less than if you'd been IVing the same 24mg.

It doesnt matter, that is all relative. He is still going to suffer withdrawals regardless. 24mg of hydromorphone taken orally is roughly equivalent to taking 65mg of oxycodone orally. You will suffer pretty bad withdrawals from taking 65mg of oxycodone every day for a month (and he said sometimes it is more at night). So you are right, it may not be the same withdrawals that one would experience coming off of 24mg of Dilaudid IV everyday, it is still not going to be fun at all and I think that was his question, would he have withdrawals and he will.

For the OP, tapering down would be helpful if you can do it (a lot of people find that difficult). Tapering would be just any schedule of gradually reducing the amount you take everyday until you are down to none. Depending on how long you want to taper just cut out a couple of pills (or however many) everyday til you are reduced down and can stop. It will still be a little painful at the end but much better than just quitting cold turkey. Some people will probably feel that since you have only been doing it a month then you would be better off to just stop cold turkey, but it is totally a personal decision.

Drinking alcohol is usually a very bad idea when suffering withdrawals from an opiate/opioid. You are already going to experience issues (most likely) with nausea, vomiting and severe diarrhea...alcohol will only aggravate those conditions more causing you to become even more dehydrated and weak. Sleeping pills or benzos may be helpful, but it is doubtful that you will just sleep through the symptoms of the withdrawal period. This is usually the biggest issue for me during opiate/opioid withdrawals..not being able to sleep due to the horribly intense restless legs and movements of my muscles. This is followed by (my worst most miserable symtpoms) the absolutely endless, horrible diarrhea and the inability to eat or even drink water and keep it down.

That does not necessarily mean that it will be exactly that way for you..the severity of it varies from person to person. For me it is a personal hell on earth, someone kill me so I stop suffering type deal. Of course, at this point my habit is much larger than yours...but at one time I used to experience withdrawals from a habit similar to yours. It was not fun for me.

yeah, i second that. You're in for some shit buddy. Drinking will be your worst enemy, hangovers will only increase your anxiety and the pain will drive you straight back to the dilaudid. My advice is to taper, get some kratom, taper that and call it a day. But it will be hard, MUCH worse than meth, know that from the beginning. Also know that the longer you go, the worse it will be, so it won't help to think about it longer...

I've posted this before but I need advice and how long does it last?
The situation:

I'm currently going cold turkey from Dilaudids using about 8-24mg daily sometimes more spread out and taken IV. I just moved an ocean away from where I was living about 6 days ago. Friday morning will be a week since the last time I used and it's only gotten worse. Extreme body aches, fever, chills, lightheadness, not to mention depression. I never was into pharmaceuticals until February of this year before it had only been "mdma" (I quoted that on purpose) once the garbage that was being pushed out began I quickly left doing it and only suffered heavy depression same with alcohol. What I'm going through now coming off a hydromorphones, I wouldn't wish for anyone. Especially now that I'm around family and have to play it cool. They just think it's severe depression that I moved. Luckily at first I had some tramadol and xanax to help but since the supply is running short I've cut back so my only hope is Tylenol Advil and ibuprofen. Kill me. Staying strong though.

The only time I was in acute WD from dilly shots was coming home from hospital. Isn't it funny how they don't blink giving you 4mg shots every 3 hours and then send you home with 10 percs and think everything will be roses .

Anyway.. It took about a week and a half for me. Insomnia, bad restless legs, body aches etc. A codeine CWE helps best with WD if you're in a country where it's OTC. If not, kratom, benzos, Imodium , warm baths and just ride it out.

You're thru the worst of it, bokeygirl! One of these mornings you're going to be waking up to internal sunshine. KUTGW!

Thank you so much Bliss26 I posted that at like 2 am last night cause I had been laying got in bed for hours without being able to fall asleep the pain is the worse like a flu that won't go away! I'm trying to stay strong and not hop on my first flight back & go use.
