Have any of you guys heard of buprenorphine transdermal patches ? Are they efficient, more so than say oc 20mgs ?

i used the australian equivalent, norspan, up to the maximum 2 x 20mcg/hr patches and found them extremely beneficial. i would subjectively say they worked better for me than 2 x 20mg oxy has because you're getting 24/7 pain relief at a constant rate and not dealing with the peaks and troughs of oxy in your system - they're (oxycontin, not OP) 8 hr release and tend to be prescribed mainly b.d (twice daily).

I have L2 L3 L4 L5 S1 fused.

ouch. i've l4, l5 and s1 fused. i'm developing ankylosing spondylitis :|

I also don't abuse my meds, and that's a huge part of our support on this forum. You'd know that if you weren't trying to come across as such a pretentious and righteous little shmuck.

i'm sure you abuse other drugs or use them recreationally, right? why draw a line in the sand at pain management patients not being able to get high off their own supply once in a while. how are we any different to those asking for help when using opioids they've acquired?

find better things to bitch about like better doctor/patient relationships.

there's a smear of irony in your post.

Just cleaned up this thread, sorry you guys had to see that!

How's everyone doing today in terms of pain? I'm recovering well from my recent back pain that was debilitating for almost a week. I've been doing a lot of hydrotherapy recently and it's been quite helpful.

I love the "weightless" sensation of being in the water.

Sorry illmantos, I am not sure what the question was? Can you repost or just PM me and I'll happily get back to you as soon as I can.

I am having bad spasm's, cfs headaches, pins and needles, losing feeling, stabbing pain all over my torso and general pain in my back, like 1 outta 10 it would be a 7. 10 being Screaming and zero being nothing. What is generally prescribed for this?
I have Syringomyelia and Tethered Spinal cord syndrome. I had corrective surgery for the syringyelia and thethered spinal cord but I am still getting these aweful pains, its neuropathic what is the usual treatment for this?

Well depending on your insurance and what you can afford, most Docs would prescribe Gabapentin (Neurontin) which is an old, safe, and widely used drug.

If you can afford it though, Lyrica (Pregabalin) is much more potent and effective in my experience with both. For my nerve disease it has vastly reduced symptoms, albeit at a very high dose (600mg/day).

You might also look into a TENS unit, or perhaps if warranted, a spinal cord stimulator. This suggestion though is much more involved and laborious than taking a few pills a day.

PM me if you have any further questions or just want to talk.

i'd love to get into aqua aerobics or swimming again but it's winter time here and it's no fun sharing the pool with all the other old folk.

the amount of core, upper body and leg power that can be established from a decent routine has astonishing results in lowering my pain levels over all. i was an ocean swimmer at a younger age so have a passion for the beach, not so much the pool but established myself there at a latter stage.

not a bad suggestion, though i'd speak to a doctor or physio about that before starting treatment:)

Yeah electrical stimulation is used alot in Physical Therapy. TENS units are very similar to the treatments you see in physical therapy. A spinal cord stimulator is an implantable version of a TENS or electrical stimulation machine, although it is a last option type prescription if the TENS unit is not sufficient.

^Does the implantable version have the option to stimulate with more electricity than a normal TENS unit?

How does it work? a super long high tech battery I guess? How often does it need replacing?

I'm doing pretty well today. I love the feeling of floating in the water too. Today I felt so relaxed and calm I took a 3 hr nap and never made it to the river today. We are going back next week end.

I'm glad your feeling better. I'm curious about the tens unit. Does it work like the one in the chiropractors office?

BTW, TENS unit works amazingly well for certain types of pain and in certain areas.

From what I've seen, a spinal cord stimulator comes with a remote-like device to give the user the ability to turn the intensity up and down. But, like I mentioned earlier, it is usually considered as a last resort by most "conservative" physicians.

I would love to try it. I hate going to the chiropractor and waiting. The tens unit and the ultra vibrating back massager are my fav. I wish I had one to use at home. It cost like $5k online. (no pervert responses please lol!)

I wish I could get the heating pad my physical therapist uses. It warms me to the bone. I've tried at least 10 different ones at home (some very expensive) and can't find any like the one she uses. It doesn't take away pain but relieves muscle tension caused from the pain. 4 more days till I get better muscle relaxers! Woohoo! Unfortunately, I have to clean my house tomorrow without them :(

Hey Zoey you're getting close to breaking 1k posts! :)

I know right!! I will have to use it wisely. I used my 666 post with out noticing it. It was the pic of the psycho from silence of the lambs in front of the mirror in the lounge. Total coincidence. Lol!!
