I quit smoking quite awhile ago...had a relapse, but kicked that as well...no problems.
here's a couple of things I did:
First, you realize that a cigarette craving lasts approximately 3-5 minutes. That's all
3-5 minutes and you have forgotten about it; so what I did was, whenever I had a craving, I'd just do something compulsive. Talk about random shit with whoever was around, pull a hackey sack out of my pocket and toss it up and down in the air, stress ball, flip through channels, make a phone call...something to get my mind off it.
Secondly, My Dad went to weight watchers a long time ago, and they taught him that whenever he knew he shouldn't eat anymore, to compulsively grab the salt shaker and douse the remaining food in salt until it was inedible.
i applied this logic to cigaretts. This is gonna sound crazy, and all you hard core smokers would probably backhand-slap me across the face...
but whenever I found a cigarette entering my hands...I compulsively snapped it in half.
You better believe no one was bummin' me any more cigs; not to mention the one I just broke wasn't smokable anymore.
Then you pick something healthy that you do atleast once a day. Jog, lift weights, aerobics, ride your bike; anything that is going to emphasize the benefits of your new-found smoke free life.
for me, it was working out, and it is a routine I have carried with me since the day I quit...3 years ago. (minus my 5 month relapse).
You have no idea how good you will feel when you start kickin' all that shit out of your body. And believe me, there will be a time when you can't even stand to be aruond cigarettes, it'll drive you out of the room at times.
Stick with it!! the physical craving lasts all but a week or two, after that, it's all psychological.
G'luck, keep us posted.
