This film has had a fair amount of criticism, not least for the fact that it trades somewhat unashamedly on the director's name - Daniel Myrick, of Blair Witch fame - and the fact that the story is essentially the same as Blair Witch... but with guns, soldiers and explosions.

Indeed, there are at least three scenes that are direct reinterpretations of the original Blair Witch film (you'll know them when you see them). Had I known it was so similar to Blair Witch, I'd probably have avoided it (I'm in the group of people who thought Blair Witch was genuinely terrifying), but I have to say... despite it failing to have the psychological tension of Myrick's earlier work, I actually quite enjoyed it.

It's the story of a CIA operative who is sent into the Afghanistan desert, under the guise of securing information that may prevent Taliban forces from acquiring some form of weapon of mass destruction. He is, of course, there to study another threat entirely.

The unwitting security forces that are to accompany him on his journey are well-acted, believable in both their on-screen profession and their eventual confusion, and appropriately equipped for what is pretty much a low-budget sci-fi/horror flick.

Not the greatest film ever made, and certainly not the most original, but worthy of a look.

Anyone else seen this?
