I read the back story behind this song, Elliot smith was pretty troubled when he wrote this song, not long before apparent suicide. He was sick of the pressure his label was putting on him, struggling with emotional problems after just getting clean off crack and h, tired of constant worry about the future. He took a knife and carved the words "now" into his arm before sitting down to write the song.
