US Politics The Mueller Investigation - report is out

I think he got in by playing on people's fears. Like the whole banning Muslim countries, that wasn't done for the safety of Americans but he used 9/11 to incite hate. Not something a leader of a western country should ever do.
Im not exactly sure how your voting gets counted, the electoral system makes no sense to me, but doesn't a state like California carry more vote weight then say Idaho?

Yes. California has the most college votes of any state. 55. Idaho only has 4.

The way it works is that every state has a certain number of votes in the electoral college, generally depending on their population size. For all but (I think) 2 states, whoever wins the presidential election in that state by popular vote, wins all that states college votes. So if California votes Democrat (or rather, when California votes Democrat), that's 55 votes to the democratic candidate in the college.

Whoever gets the most votes in the electoral college, wins.

There is more too it, in the sense that there's those 2 states that don't use the winner takes all system and the specifics of how the electors are selected and how they can vote. But if you just think of it the simplified way I just described, it's probably close enough.

It's designed that way because the system was designed thinking that people would be voting most directly for their state government representatives. With the united states as a whole being a superstate comprised of many smaller sovereign states. So it was intended that each state would vote for the president through their college votes. Then each state government could figure out how to pick their electors. Since each state wants to maximize their voting power, most of them allocate all their votes to whoever wins in that state.

Your take on it. Others can read it as knowing he'll have an anchor around his neck (whether he is innocent or not) while trying to do the President's duties because of an ongoing investigation.

Or as I previously said, he could say that because he genuinely believes it's a witch hunt and thought it would succeed.

Point being in itself it doesn't prove much of anything.

No, but I find myself amused at how benign statements can get scrutinized and interpreted multiple ways.

That's not a comment on Lucy20 in particular, but an observation of the whole Trump era in general.

Yeah it really happens on all sides. Like the "some people did something and..." comment from Rep. Omar. "OMG it means she wanted 9/11 to happen!!!11!!"

I was just skimming the thread and thought Trump said that when the report was finished. To me that would look guilty. If you have nothing to hide thats an odd comment. It could be taken out of context but if i was starting to investigate someone and they said "im fked" i would kinda take it as someone with something to hide

Then no offense but I'm kinda glad you're not the one doing these kinds of investigations. I'm not saying your interpretation isn't entirely plausible. I'm saying it's not the only plausible explanation. Which destroys any use of this quote as evidence of anything.

You only need look at the many posts I've made here to know that I'm no trump defender. I outright hate the guy.

But him saying 2 words with no other context except that it was in relation to this investigation means absolutely nothing.

The thing is, trumps behavior has repeatedly shown him to be a man of extremes. You're either his absolute ally or complete enemy with no in between. I would bet anything that in his mind he believes that this whole thing is a witch hunt. That no matter what the truth is that there are people out there who wanna see him out of office. Which is certainly true. I for example want him out of office regardless of if there was any collusion or obstruction. :)

But true or not, it certainly makes it highly plausible that he said that because he believed this was a witch hunt that would succeed regardless of what the truth was.

Hearsay is always a little iffy. And this is as iffy as it gets. It's 2 words with only the most basic context. And which can be easily explained with at least 2 other equally plausible explanations.

One that by "I'm fucked" he meant his presidency was fucked politically by how much of a distraction this investigation would be. The other that he felt it was a witch hunt that didn't care what the truth was.

And frankly, if someone investigating me took something like this to be evidence that I was guilty. I would be absolutely convinced that I was right, that it IS a witch hunt and it doesn't matter if I'm guilty or not.

Yeah I think any president or political figure that was facing this sort of negative scrutiny might just say "I'm fucked!" whether guilty or not.

However the report outlines some highly sketchy behavior that, to me, appears to be obstruction of justice. My guess is, when his presidency is over, he'll truly be fucked as he'll be indicted. It seems likely they won't try to do it while he's the sitting president; not only is there some question over whether a sitting president can be indicted, it would be highly disruptive and would further outrage a lot of people who still, somehow, support him. I really hope he isn't voted in again though. If he were to be, then I would hope that something would be done because I don't want that sort of immoral/amoral/narcissistic/oafish/ignorant sort of person as the president of the United States. It's time to get someone back in who knows what they're doing. Hopefully (god I hope) someone who is interested in prioritizing the environment again.

Is there a connection between getting high and being a liberal? Not asking in a bad way just for sake of conversation . Cuz I am an addict yet I support Trump %100. I don’t believe there is one leader that is not somewhat corrupt . I do not agree with all his policies but at the end of the day economy is doing well and I think he is a good president .

No, I don't think so, I've met plenty of conservatives on here who get high. Most people like to get high in some way or other.

I respect your opinion, it's really about being a good person, and respecting other people, and not feeding into this stupid hate that's going on between the sides. I don't understand how you can see the sum total of what's gone on and think he's done a good job, I mean the economy was good before he started his presidency and he's spearheaded policies to undermine education and environmental protections (which are my two biggest problems with his presidency), and he gets caught in lies constantly and totally changes his stance on things based on how it makes him look in the moment which shows strong signs of a real lack of planning and dedication/trustworthiness. But you're entitled to your opinion and I certainly don't hate you for it. :)

If you want to get depressed, read comments to Yahoo news articles. Horrible, horrible stuff. I don't recommend it.

the economy is in the toilet. The 10% under-employment rate speaks for itself.

I have friends that are Trump supporters though so don’t feel bad.

Is that how you quantify the economy being in the toilet? 10% under-employment? Most of what I see and hear is that the economy is actually doing better than it has. Perhaps this is a line of discussion we should move to the Trump thread.

Siding with the occupied government in Russia and stepping all over average Americans is totally in-line with why they ran the investigation on his campaign, Manafort, DJT ("Person #1") and all their cronies. It took JEFF SESSIONS TO GROW A BACKBONE for Trump to throw a tantrum and lose his marbles. And instead of getting people off welfare by getting them more hours, better work, more jobs, what is he doing? Playing golf? Tweeting twelve times a night?

Can't find anything more recent because I'm a failure at things like this. I imagine he can't get it below 10%.

and it's just sad to me, the idea of "everybody is corrupt so that makes it ok"...

alasdair
We are all human and it is alright to be human. I never got anything beneficial out of holding myself to a standard no one else was capable of performing except misery and heartache.

Corruption is pretty fucking terrible though and it is not a 100% rate. Dishonesty is not a 100% rate. People who think this are largely ignorant on research performed in this domain, I believe. So I really agree with your sentiment.

im Assuming this is a debate since majority off us can relate on many levels . First off I am alittle biased because I heavily support trump because I am Israeli and trump is the best friend Israel has ever had .
Secondly you think a socialist like sanders will make this country any better . Whatever happened to his wife being under investigation for fraud? You don’t hear much about that anymore hu? What about Biden sexually harassing women all of a dissent that’s ok now? Trump is just a womanizer that’s something else but he doesn’t sexually harras women. I can go on and on about each democratic nominee . Honestly if I had to pick a Democrat to win the ticket I would choose Schultz or if Bloomberg runs then him . Not cuz there Jewish cuz sanders is also a self hating Jew . But because there centrists and not complete liberal leftists .
Don’t forget trump has power but he doesn’t control America that’s what we have checks and balances for . I hated Obama with a passion but I had to come to the realization he is our president and I must support him eventho I don’t support his political agenda . Again I’m sure trump is not the best person in the world but Clinton was a witch . 100 times more corrupt then Trump will ever be .

Yeah the problem is that politicians overall are too corrupt. I don't care for much any of them, really, I did like Obama overall although he was disappointing in the end and certain things I was strongly against that he did (like the bank bailouts that basically just went to the CEOs in bonus pay and shit). I absolutely do not like Hillary. I do like Bernie Sanders, and here's why, "Socialist" is being used as a swear word these days, they're co-opting the frenzy of the "red scare"during the cold war when communists were basically compared to bogeymen, it's fear-based manipulation. Sanders isn't a full-on socialist anyway, we're talking about a person who wants a democracy but where the tax money is spent on services for the people and infrastructure and such, instead of on making the wealthy even wealthier at the expense of everyone else, which is what we have now, also known as a plutocracy or kleptocracy. I don't view socialized healthcare or unemployment assistance as "free handouts", we all pay a lot of money in taxes and what does it get us? Not much unless we're wealthy. It SHOULD get us social services that help to ensure we can live more stable and healthy lives with all the money we give the government. Our infrastructure is collapsing, our educational system is a shadow of what it once was, we're one of the only first-world nations to not provide health care, and our healthcare and prescription costs are astronomical (I was looking at the cost of a month's prescription of Lyrica yesterday, just randomly. In the US it's $450. In Britain, it's $6. Why?? Just because they can. Big pharma, big oil, etc control the government through most of the politicians, and they make sure they're the ones reaping all the benefits of our money. And if you have to go to the emergency room you can get slammed with tens of thousands of dollars in debt suddenly. The rest of the world looks at us like we're barbarians for that).

We have tens of millions of people who don't go to the doctor because they can't afford to, don't receive any preventative healthcare, get sick, end up needing to go the hospital, then the taxpayer foots the bill because they can't pay. It's nonsense. And Trump is trying to repeal Obamacare which is the closest we've ever had to free health care (almost all of my friends only are able to afford healthcare through Obamacare, fortunately for me I work for a good company and get it through them). He says he's going to replace it with better healthcare but he says everything of his is better, the best. No plan has been discussed, no details. Why should I believe he/the repubs have any interest in spending tax money on a healthcare solution? They've provided no evidence they intend to.

What it amounts to is, if I'm paying taxes, which you better believe we will be regardless of who's in office, I want those tax dollars to help out me and all my fellow citizens. I don't want them going into massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations and subsidies for huge industries, especially if I got $1500 less on my tax return this past year than ever before (which I did - and I feel like they robbed me of it because it's not gonna help me or anyone I care about, it's paying for tax cuts to those who have more money than I could spend in my life if I tried). I like Bernie because, first of all, he's very vocally for what I want taxes to be spent on. Second of all, since the '60s he's been fighting for civil rights, and civil rights are another big point for me, we're teetering on the edge of serious backwards movement. He seems like the one candidate I've seen in a long time who is genuine and has the interests of the people at heart. He's not a socialist... he's not going to turn America into Venezuela. He wants America to be a democracy that focuses its wealth on social services instead of on the people that need it the least. And that's also what I want. For the record I do not support free college for all (but yes to free health care - again, not free, paid for by your taxes) - I do support getting costs under control so people can go to college if they want to pursue higher education without crippling themselves financially for a very long time.

It's tough since you can't believe anything on the news anymore, what to believe, who to trust... that's one thing Trump got right, there's a lot of fake news out there. And yes of course, you're right that the president doesn't control the country by any means. I just dislike most of what I've seen from Trump, both the way he acts (and therefore how it reflects on our country to the rest of the world) and in his policies.
