The meaning of life

Try to move beyond ego and then you'll see that the question of meaning is rather meaningless. You're stuck in semantics that don't matter. The truth is silent and without words. It will tell you all you need to know. The connection is already there, all you have to do is remember who/what you really are - and who/what you really are is not what is asking the question.

Is that what we call faith?

I think it's different for everyone. For me I would say love/beauty/happiness, while someone else might say something else like power or money. But I think it's also about learning to appreciate things and gain more and more happiness from them.

Like, because my soul was originally from the angel kingdom ( and this is also quite common, and include many celebrities, like Pete Doherty). So it's natural for me to be in a state of praise, like "Hallelujah, praise the Lord", just for noticing something good about the world, like another person's positive qualities or anything that can make you feel good (like even drugs that can ruin your life).

Anyway, I realise this can seem ridiculous to others who are different, so I try to limit the outward expression of it.

Lost Ego: I agree that 'now' is all we have, eloquently put by Alan Watts 'I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present, which is what there is and all there is.'
But does that mean now is the meaning of life? I don't think so. This moment can be completely meaningless, not useless as it is perpetually leading itself into itself (the present becomes the present) but meaningless.
I think it's up to the individual to bring meaning into their life.
NOW whether they do that by realizing some objective/greater meaning, or by creating their own meaning, or by learning from the meaning others have held, is irrelevant. You can go through life without any meaning at all, it's your responsibility to create your own meaning.
Personally I think everything is random and that there's no real/objective meaning, and it's up to the individual to create their subjective meaning. Something I'm incapable of doing at this point in time.

Because it exists as a part of empirical reality. There is no meaning beyond the [not really so] simple fact that all the right conditions where met to making it physically and chemically such that you exist in the form you do, and that all these particles had emergent properties at every level of resolution to give rise to a system that is vastly more then the sum of it parts.

the meaning of life is... being alive and accept life and enjoy it as it is... short, ephemeral and super-dooper to live it!
come on mate, smoke some weed and take it easy skunky:)

discovering an accepting that there's no definite meaning to life is an extremely relieving moment

you can choose whichever way you want to live your life
your meaning of life could be to have fun, to prove string theory right, to get as many posts on bluelight as possible, to help others...

you're free

I agree.

Through understanding there's no meaning apart from what you choose opens you upto the realization that you and you alone are soley responsible for your existence.

I think this can be overwhelming for some people, as a great level of comfort in the belief that one day you will suddenly find meaning and purpose is removed and put directly into your hands, 'one day' becomes 'right now'.

There really does not need to be a meaning to it. However, if you must have one, then if you think of yourself as a part of a large being (i.e. the humankind) and not an individual, then you're pretty much an immortal. This view is pretty sufficient to me personally.

The meaning of your life is whatever you decide the meaning is. That's the fun part and if you die, and there is no after life, you wont know anyways. :) I think making a mark or a difference in the world is a great meaning for your life.

I think the meaning of life is to simply enjoy what your given, the fact that you have a life is beautiful, do whatever you can do to enjoy yourself as much as possible. People always complicate things too much and ask too many questions they dont acctualy realise whats in front of them...always in the mind. just live as you want lol stop asking such questions, there is no point to life, just a big mystery...

exactly...people are always comlicating things when life is really just simple...people always make things harder than they are..just enjoy life however you want...

I think life is meaningless. Nothing we do matters when we're dying. Any power, love, money, etc. we accumulate won't prevent us from rotting in the ground.

The meaning of life to me is that life is the only way for the universe to witness itself, we are all tied together in one endless force that unites the universe and gives unto life to use as its eye.
