I got the vaccine and a booster, but I don't think I'll be getting another booster. I caught omicron after the booster. I got the original covid strain too, before the vaccines. The vaccine is very effective against the original strain, and pretty effective against delta, but seems like someone who is healthy probably isn't gonna benefit much from it. I don't regret getting boosted or vaccinated since I had no side effects whatsoever. But definitely leary about getting another.

imagine being the poor bastard who has to examine the evidence to write reports for the government, concluding that there's insufficient evidence for any pandemic measures enacted, and still having to watch the government go ahead and imprison the ignorant voters anyway because pfizer is too valued a benefactor to piss off by telling people the truth.

Government: "Please wear a mask in public places"
the people: OMFG, FASCIST POLICY, STRIPPING MY RIGHTS, ASSASSINATE FAUCI, FUCK THE GOVERNMENT

*1 dead rat found in a gutter in China, presumptively covid positive*
Government: "TOTAL FUCKING LOCKDOWN. Everyone is locked in their house, you cannot leave, even if you're starving. You have no rights. We're rounding up all your pets and murdering them, too. Also, you aren't allowed to complain about it on social media, or we will imprison you."
the people: O_O

pretty stark difference... I think a lot of Americans take their rights for granted

shocking images of pets in bags on their way to be terminated in China, due to them possibly being exposed to covid (I found this image very upsetting...):

and Americans are complaining about having to wear masks for a few hours.....

I reacted with a sad face but only because of those horrible photos, otherwise it would have been a thumb up. Every time see a cat, I can only think "that is someone's cat that they love a much as I love my cat". I can't even stand to think about how terrible that is for those people (and animals).

We're spoiled as fucking shit, no doubt, and we fared better in personal freedoms remaining during covid than anywhere else I can think of in the world.

I've seen various comments on reddit by people from other countries claiming Americans are "spoiled"

my gut reaction was, why? Most of us live in various forms of poverty... we aren't all rich...

but it's making more sense now, with this perspective

spoiled by freedoms we take for granted
 
Long thread with over 30 examples about how a lot of current vax research isn't focused on safety/effectiveness, and is instead on how to get more people to get shots, that we and they (gov't/pharma) know aren't effective for current variants.

Yeah not saying there aren't others. But I literally never stopped doing what I wanted, I wore masks, yeah, but never bothered me. I went out to see friends, went to outdoors shows, threw outdoor festivals with my band on our property, if I didn't wear a mask no one ticketed me (I didn't, but tons of people refused to wear masks). The small businesses did suffer, but as individuals, I never noticed really anything being enforced or any of my freedoms curtailed, at least in my neck of the woods. I know some states were worse though.
 
I typically wear glasses, and I really hate how on humid days my breath fogs up my glasses to the point where I just have to take them off and continue to wear the mask. They fog up in 2-3 breaths on foggy days. It's super annoying.

But honestly, in the perspectives of bigger troubles and annoyances I've had in my life it's actually really small. Especially when the possibility of even greater hardship or 'annoyances' are excluded due to the freedoms I afford.

Vaccines are different and I respect people's right to choose not to get one, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the obession of creating a volcano of misinformation and their seemingly complete distrust of benign forms of government like the CDC and vague distrust of science in general (whenever it suits them).

do you just not care that brazil had one of the highest death rates in the world? why would you omit this fact?

sweden fared better, they have a very good public health system and people mostly used their own heads to decide what to do and prioritised others health over their own temporary freedom.

I wasn't referring to death rates. I mentioned those countries while responding to Xorkoth about countries not taking away peoples personal freedoms.

What do you mean by "temporary freedom"?
