Election 2020 The Final Countdown v. Nov. 3rd

Are you sure he can run again? I heard he can't, that the second term must be consecutive

Pretty sure yeah. 22nd amendment. You can be elected president twice.

It's just that the 2nd time is usually as incumbent, but it's not required to be.

Trump has only been elected once, and he hasn't served as president under anyone else's term. So he's still allowed to be elected once more.

EDIT: I've done some googling and reread the 22nd amendment. Nothing I'm seeing would seem to preclude trump running again at some point in the future.

You can have 2 terms, non consecutive, and if you use more than 2 years of someone else's term (say if you were vice president and the president died) that counts at a term.

Amendment 22 contains no language in regards to requiring the terms be consecutive, and actually open up the possibility that a president could serve 10 years due to the wording:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

They don't care, they say that god has chosen an imperfect vessel to act out his holy plan to make America a Christian nation. That's how they justify all of his immoral behavior.

Yeah, I don't think they care if he is Christian as long as he is pro-life and opposes other aspects of progressive left-wing politics that they perceive as a threat to their moral fiber.

This is the most rigged election in the western world. biden had let it slip weeks ago saying he doesn't need your votes to win. All these late postal ballots and mail in voting is the most fraud thing in the world.

Every single election they count ballots for days after election night. It's just how it works, and this year they have FAR more mail-in ballots than ever before. In Pennsylvania, where they're complaining about it the most, the Republican legislators refused the election officials' request ahead of time to allow them to start counting/processing mail-in ballots before election night, so they could avoid this very situation, but they refused to allow them to do it. And now the Republicans are complaining that the fact it's taking so long is proof of foul play. No, it's a fucking con. They ensured this would be happening so they could call foul play. It's sickening what's going on right now, Trump is calling to stop counting votes before they're all counted, so the election goes in his favor. He is calling to throw away the votes of millions of Americans because he is afraid that if those votes are counted, he will lose. This is inexcusable, and anti-democratic, this is what totalitarian regimes do. Every vote needs to be counted. It has ALWAYS since the beginning of this country, taken days or weeks after election night to count all the votes, because of mail-in ballots. it is totally in accordance with the laws in most states (it varies by state) to accept ballots received after election night, as long as they're postmarked by election day. Trump's attempting to stop vote counting is 100% anti-democratic and anyone supporting this behavior should be ashamed of themselves. The Republicans, by and large, have utterly failed to call him out on this (shout out to Mitt Romney who is calling him out, kudos to you). This is a threat to democracy right now. Trump has made it known all along that he would only accept the results of the election if he won. That sentiment alone should have freedom-loving Americans taking to the streets against the guy. Now he is showing that he's not above undermining public trust in one of our most important and fundamental rights, in order to play into his fucking ego game and retain power. This is the kind of shit that goes down in third world countries with dictators. People need to wake the fuck up and realize what's happening here. What Trump is doing is treasonous to the very foundations of why our country and the Constitution and Bills of Rights were formed.

The Trump campaign is spreading lies by the dozen about voter fraud... a great one they got caught in was when they said that Winsconsin's number of cast votes exceeded their number of registered voters by like 40,000. Someone made a convincing-looking post with numbers that sounded real, but if you spent a few minutes going to Wisconsin's election commission web site, their number of registered voters was, and has been, listed at half a million more than this bogus piece of "news" claimed. Outright lies that sound good if you want to believe them. But these lies do not hold up under scrutiny.

I'm convinced that in 20, 30, 50 years, kids are going to be learning about this time period in history class and ask their grandparents "why did so many Americans support that guy?" And most of us will say something to the effect of "it was a dark time in our country's history". But the trump-tards are going to maintain until the day they die that they were robbed and Trump was JUST ABOUT to make America great again, this election was stolen, and Trump was the people's billionaire.

Yeah I agree that kids will be writing history class essays about this. To be frank in 50 years we’re either dead from climate change or we’ll have largely moved on from Trumpism as a country and hopefully be somewhat on the right track as a result

In order for there to be widespread voter fraud, there would have to be a massive conspiracy. There would have to be people "in on it" right across the board. Not just vote counters and observers, but voters themselves. I just don't see it happening. Think about it. If it was possible, the Trump administration would be doing it (not the Biden administration) and Trump lost. What more evidence do you need than that?

Nobody controls the election. Trump was the most reckless and dishonest president in American history and he lost. I'm not sure why that's difficult to understand.

Using words like trump-tards isn't helping your already divided country.

I sincerely hope that Biden sets the example of reaching the olive branch across, and that all of us Americans can begin to heal the divisions that exist that have been exacerbated by the last 4 years to an unbelievable degree.

Take the high road.

Maybe after Biden, we will get another candidate like Bernie, or someone who is anti-establishment, but who isn't a malignant narcissist, and who will really lead us through these times and begin to aim our country in the right direction, and as things are going well, and our quality of life starts going up, the people will embrace it. I totally respect wanting to vote a non-establishment candidate, and I get why people chose Trump in 2016, after all they fucked Bernie. I have talked to lot of people who wanted to vote for Bernie but voted Trump instead. How you can still support him after the last 4 years is beyond me, though. You got conned, by a conman. It's okay to just admit you were wrong, admit the fucking asshole took advantage if your fears and you believed him. The entire rest of the world and most of America realizes it, in fact it's shockingly blatantly obvious. You threw your eggs into the wrong basket. It's cool, people make mistakes. This is not the sort of thing to double down on, though.

I only wish, so much, that we had a good candidate on the Dem side, or better yet, we had ranked voting so third party had a chance to win. But at least Biden isn't trying to undermine the voting process and taking every opportunity to further hammer at the wedge splitting us apart. I'd rather have 4-8 more years of establishment than I would 4 more years of Trump.

Well in this. all I can say is, you're right, I'm sorry. It's just my level of frustration is very high.

I don't get why you lefties in the US aren't happy. You won. Don't let him take that away from you. You're playing right into his games... What are you frustrated about?

Like everybody else around the world I'm obviously watching what's happening with the elections. And I've tried to stay well clear of any discussion or provide any input or opinion on the topic (and which I've managed to do up until now).

Personal ideologies aside though there is something I just cannot get my head around and that is this:

How come it's the mail in and absentee ballots that seem to be the key factor in pushing Biden into the lead? Does this not strike anybody else (other than my esteemed colleague @TripSitterNZ) as odd? Just from a purely logical point of view something doesn't make sense to me or sit right with me in my gut. So I'd be really interested in opinions on this.

For the record I found the below the other day. I never bothered to post about this or post the link as it was still early days but the phenomenon continues right up until this morning (this was broadcast on 5 November so it was early days hence my not taking it too seriously at the time but, as I say, days after the phenomenon continues).

Mail in ballots always lean democrat, but particularly because of the dem/republican attitude towards COVID restrictions and mask wearing... plus Trump encouraged republicans to vote in person and the dems encouraged mail in ballots.

Does that clear it up?

(Alan Jones and Sky News are about as politically biased as you can get.)
