You'll definitely want to go to the hospital. If you keep losing consciousness then that's a serious sign. Could also be TIAs or other forms of stroke.

Yeah - I just called my GP and he thinks I have a concussion on top of broken nose so going to the ER now. Really hope it goes okay

Been diagnosed with trochanteric bursitis, horrible shooting pain from the outside of my hip all the way down to my outer calf. Just went from 16-18mg suboxone to methadone 30mg prescribed which is helping but am still in withdrawal I think. Due to go up on methadone tomorrow and have a cortisone injection on friday.

If the steroid injection works I'll be no doubt switching back to subz as I've heard the taper can be worse from methadone although person specific I know, any thoughts on which is easier to taper from- most say subz some say they are the same-God knows.

Finally got my codeine on repeat prescription. Asked both my GP and Pain Dr about DHC and they both said not cus its got a higher abuse potential. which I would agree with, no ceiling dose.

but hey repeat prescription no more phoning up my GP every time!

hope you you get better pagey

It's crazy how tight gp's are these days. My mum has chronic pain (three slipped discs, very bad sciaticca) and gets 100mg of tramadol a day. She asked for more pain relief; the doctor said she should use cold compresses. So, she's using codeine linctus for that. (Cant believe that stuff's legal!).

Well I have got opiate and benzo misuse history. And my GP did trial me on morphine when gabapentin was doing nothing but give me side effects. but then she wanted me to try pregabalin and I did as well, its doing OK so codeine on top. So to be fairs my GP is pretty damn good!

But yes they are a bit tight. Problem is DR's look at America and go fuck that we need to be careful. and let's be honest we don't want to go the way of America but we do have to improve. Its a difficult one!

Glad to hear you're meds are working for you; chronic pain can be life-destroying. I think with the NHS it's luck of the draw, I've had great doctors, I've had cold and detached doctors.

But god, it really was crazy in the states, wasn't it? I just saw the documentary
"Oxcontin Express"(its on youtube), there were dozens of shady clinics that would pretty much give you large ammounts of very powerful opiates if you had the cash, though I think they're really cracking down on it now.

My father blew out both shoulders (it took 6 weeks for them to decide he needed an MRI, and they've cancelled 3 appointments for that so far), he can't lift his arm higher than his neck, and with 3 young children it's causing a lot of problems for him. He's also got a congenital knee condition that has hospitalised his mother, his father, himself and myself on numerous occasions, which is flaring up intermittently now that he's torn his hamstring.
He's currently eating 500mgs of Tramadol a day (I've warned him about 400mg< doses) along with 150mg of Indomethacin. His actual prescription is for 150mg of Tramadol a day and until he has an MRI his GP is refusing any more pain-killers.

The attitude of most medical professionals to pain is absolutely obscene, I had a triple plical debridement and was given 256mg of codeine to last the two weeks of pain.
Needless to say it did absolutely nothing for the pain.

So I just spent the past 24 hours in the hospital after fainting multiple times, falling on my face and breaking my nose nicely in two and bruising pretty much every piece of my body, just to be treated like junkie scum by all the nurses and doctors because I had to tell them I was on amps when it happened. They stuck me on 3 IVs, took blood & piss tests and left me in a room alone for 6 hours before anyone had the courtesy to come in and tell me what the fuck was going on. Cue a meeting with a cardialogist who gave me a lecture on amphetamines being bad for the heart (no fucking kidding, thanks) and multiple brain scans where they yelled at me for not holding my head upright enough (well sorry, it's a bit hard to move it seeing as my fucking nose is broken). So apparently I have a concussion as well, which, you know, means I was a bit confused by everything and kind of panicked by not understanding what was going on, but clearly that qualifies as a reason to tell me to grow the fuck up and deal with it. Was taken to a room once they'd finished their tests about 2:30 am, woken up at 7 by nurses coming in and sticking needles in me, and then left to lie around for another 5 hours. Oh and also, they took all my stuff (phone, book I'd brought in case I had to stay overnight) because well, who knows? And the conclusion of all that is, they did tests for a whole fucking day and did not give me a single piece of treatment. Nothing for the concussion, and when I asked them for painkillers for my nose they said to get fucking ibuprofen.
I also look like a junkie again because it's not as if it were their job to stick IVs in people all day every day so clearly they have to try about 20 times before finding a fucking vein.

So basically everything really fucking hurts but I just have to 'deal with it'. Really have to love hospitals.

11 hours of clueless waiting must have sucked, but good that you got proper MRI scans and was deemed OK enough to be discharged.

BTW, nose fracture usually doesn't qualify for strong painkillers, not here at least :\

Really sorry to hear that SHM & Pagey. <3 Our medical systems fail so many of us. :(

My girlfriend has been in chronic pain for about 5 months now, showing strong signs of fibromyalgia, polymyalgia & diabetic nerve pain. Pain so severe & dabilitating that she lost control of her diabetes & ended up in ICU numerous times in the past few months. All hospital tests (x-rays, MRI, C-T, bloods) show clear for the above mentioned conditions so many hospital staff believed her pain to be psychosomatic & treated her accordingly! :X

Pain relief given by doctor was 30mg codeine/500mg paracetamol but these became ineffective after several weeks. Tramadol was too hard on her stomach & destroyed her appetite. Ibuprofen & all other OTC pain meds ineffecticve. Diclofenac helped at times. Basically she was told she would just have to "deal with the pain" until an official diagnosis could be made by a rheumatologist (whom she is currently waiting on an appointement with). Easier said than done!
So with my mental health suffering from lack of sleep I took matters into my own hands & did my research on the best ways to treat my girlfriend's pain. Recreational drugs are a big help. Psychedelics, serotonergics & dissociatives in particular. LSD, MDMA, 2CB, ketamine & methoxetamine have been the biggest helps so far. These drugs are just a wee "holiday" away from the pain tho. Not practical by any means when cost & serotonin depletion/syndrome are real factors. We've gone through 21grams of ketamine in the past 2 weeks! (obligatory doctor's doses n all! =D)

I managed to acquire some Lyrica from a friend & that was the first medication that really worked for her nerve pain. I told her to take the empty blister pack to the doctors & tell him that this stuff works & you want him to perscibe it to you. It worked! He started her off on 75mg twice a day, then when she went back for her repeat perscription with symptoms of persistant pain he put her up to 150mg twice a day. She actually needs this 3-4 time a day at the moment so that's 450-600mg pregabalin a day. Quite alot but that's what she requires to combat her pain!
So at the moment the pain is managed but I had to take matters into my own hands to get the Lyrica which I knew she needed. If it was left up to the doctors she would yet to be perscribed it & living in a world of pain.

Thank fuck for easy access to information!

Lyrica is amazing, gabapentin/pregabalin must have been lifesavers for many folk. Tolerance is a bit tricky to keep under control but it's best to stay under 600mg per day, side effects can get pretty weird and serious.

Has she tried cannabis? Especially in the forms that have high CBD content (and little THC) it can help loads for neuropathy. It's not too hard to make contact with medically minded clubs/growers online to mailorder edibles or concentrates, like oils, nectars or waxes.

If ket is useful now, then she might want to keep some around for breakthru pain. *snortle* Hehe, "keeping ket around" =D

Oh yes, we're daily smokers! Never mentioned it above but it definately eases her pain. Unfortuanetly we can't afford the luxury of choosing high CBD strains on a daily basis. It's a case of smoking whatever is in circulation in our area as we don't grow our own, but more often than not it's indica so all good!

& yeah, the ket WAS being "kept around" for break-thru pain emergencies! Way too handy to have around for her, especially when the ket fiend in me needs little excuse to binge on it! Besides, effectiveness for pain dercreases dramatically as tolerance skyrockets & in the meantime i'm left with a massive hole in my bank account!

I was on pain meds for a few years and my doc retired so I got a new doc. This doc took me off of my meds cold turkey because the xray I had done didn't show anything wrong with my back. I live in pain everyday. Sometimes it is unbearable and I end up throwing up. It is very hard to find a doctor who will prescribe these meds to me so I can be free of pain once again. I wasn't a recreational user of this med and I didn't abuse it. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Not happened to me but I have heard it happen to others.

I find it just a bizzare thing to do, why some DR's feel they can just come along and end someone's pain meds, they are dirt cheap and if you are pain free they are doing their Job. the pain meds that is.

I was recently in care home environment working. All SU transferred to another GP surgary . I was there for meds review..... The Dr was a Muslim and she took everyone who on any sort of opiate painkiller off them. My belief and manager is she is reilgous and anti opiates due to it. Anyway we phoned up head GP got things sorted out. A couple of people had cancer for fuck sake!

Well if they are taken excessively they are bloody evil tbh,, ok for little dragons not great big enslaving fire breathing biatches??? Unless thats your thing?

CBD by itself is legal in uk;(notpsychoactive ) you can get it in chewing gums and stuff. A mate got me onto it. Quite cheap too

I really couldn't say, mate. Do you mean like medical insurance? Cause a lot of these products are available without prescription as consumer products. Hell, you can get CBD by eating hemp seed. (You'd need to eat a hell of a lot though)...
