US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

I think what's most telling is how hard Trump has been getting hit lately for his comments in regards to the virus and pandemic. It isn't helping his chances for re-election, and it was a huge win to finally see Trump change his stance on masks. Some of his once loyal allies are even publicly separating from him, so it will really be crucial to see how Trump proceeds from here. He may be down, but he's definitely not out.

When the virus turns out to be extraordinarily less harmful than originally claimed and the tight controls and surveillance aren't rescinded then that's a conspiracy.
If you knew people, like I did who have been hurt quite badly by covid-19 I think your opinion would change.

I don't tell myself "oh it doesn't matter, the people I know are statistical outliers".

Do you reason away 9/11 that way? Oh it's just 2,000 dead Americans, who cares? Is that how you rationalize things?

And you know what I think is fucking criminal? Having a close family member die and then only being allowed to legally have 10 people at their fucking funeral.
The person is dead, a funeral is stupid. You can cry at home by yourself. Buy a box of kleenex and suck it up, cupcake. Your loved ones aren't looking down at you from heaven, or up from hell. They aren't there and cannot appreciate you endangering your health to praise theirs which no longer exists.

Grieve from a distance.

I don't get why people would care "oh only 10 people get to go to a funeral" that's some 3rd world shit from Africa I've seen on Al Jazeera. Crymoar. Get over it. People die. Your grief won't go away quicker with covid-19.

It's fake outrage, If you actually cared and knew what was going on then you would be much more sympathetic to all the large number of victims created due to the lockdowns

You are an immoral person.
I don't know why you ever pretend to care about anyone.

Can I interrupt for a moment to point out the last two pages (at least) haven't mentioned a damn thing about Trump? It's all been COVID with a little WHO sprinkled in with masks, and if I'm not mistaken there is a seperate thread for that which is either starving of neglect or providing refuge for Trump love-hate commentary. I apologize if my (and likely others) expectation that a thread title reflect it's content is a bit oppressive to your free speech (note to self to take away free speech), but I thought I'd offer a moment of self reflection for ya'll, since you seem a bit zeroed in on something lately.

I think that Trump is just trying to play it down so that people can't really see how little of a grasp he has on the whole issue.

No it really isn't. And we're seeing that more and more by the day.
Imagine shutting the world down for a flu.... that's how ridiculous this all is but most people will simply not be able to see through the programming
Yes, but COVID isn't just a flu. If you look at the annual average deaths for a "normal" flu and then the amount of deaths we've had since the beginning of the outbreak (570,564 as of right now) there seems to be quite a big difference. Another point, the virus was first discovered in late December 2019. We didn't hear anything of it until earlier this year, just like we never hear anything of the flu. However, if there were to be a massive outbreak of the flu (like there has been with COVID) then I'm sure the government would respond in a similar way, because only THEN does it become a real threat. Like it is now.

Democrat Gov. Waltz Responds After Trump Rejects $500 Million Bailout Ask; Conservatives Rejoice

Democratic Governor Tim Walz responded to President Donald Trump’s decision to reject his $500 million bailout request for the damage caused by the weeks-long violent rioting in Minneapolis in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

Gov. Walz was widely criticized for his slow reaction to the violence, particularly by President Trump.

“Walz, a Democrat, requested that Trump declare Minnesota a ‘major disaster’ zone in a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on July 2 after more than 1,500 buildings were damaged by looting and rioting in the wake of Floyd’s death, totaling over $500 million in damages,” The Washington Examiner reported.

The Democrat says he is “disappointed” in Trump’s rejection of the financial aid.

“The Governor is disappointed that the federal government declined his request for financial support,” said a statement from Walz’s office. “As we navigate one of the most difficult periods in our state’s history, we look for support from our federal government to help us through.”

Republican Rep. Tom Emmer, elected by Minnesota’s 6th congressional district, lobbied the president to reject the aid, the Examiner noted.

“If the federal government is expected to assist in the clean-up of these unfortunate weeks, it has an obligation to every American — prior to the release of funding — to fully understand the events which allowed for this level of destruction to occur and ensure it never happens again,” Rep. Emmer said in a letter to the administration.
...

I won't quote the conservative tweets supporting the decision, only posting to show the President's decision to let the states and cities who allowed the riots to run uncontrolled and are now entertaining defunding their police forces to bear the brunt of their own inaction and decision making. I agree. The rest of America shouldn't have to bail out weak gov't that has fostered both the environment of police brutality AND the riots pushing back on these events. You made your bed, lie in it. Same goes for any efforts to defund the police = reap what you sow, and don't expect the rest of us to save you.

don't expect the rest of us to save you
Yeah, as if. The rest of us will save you whether we want to or not. The govt. likes to call it 'tax'.

Gotta remember the govt. doesn't have any money. The govt. is funded by mostly the middle class, the dumb schmucks to earn too much to get full tax relief but not enough to afford tax accountants, trusts and offshore accounts. So every $ the govt. spends is your money, your children's money and/or your grand-children's money.

With the amount of debt currently being wracked up globally, our great-grandchildren will still be paying this lot off.

Well, it's not entirely the governments fault here. There are laws against racism, and police brutality obviously goes against basic human rights. The way the police are acting is nowhere near how they've been taught to do so, it's just those few retards who think that their judgement and opinions are worth more than the law. The governments just deciding not to do much against it other than possibly defunding them which most likely isn't going to help much at all. What I don't understand is why they don't just fire the cops that are causing the problem.

So in other words "Orange Man Bad !!!!"

I didn't vote for Trump, what exactly are you trying to prove here?

what exactly are you trying to prove here?

Besides Orange Man Bad? I think it's proving to be the low season for progressives to find things to try and make him look bad. Russia failed, Mueller failed, impeachment failed, Covid failed, they are out of ideas for now. Rest assured, though, Trump will continue to bonehead his way through everyday activity and give them new opportunities.

What a choice we have in November - Dumb and dumber o_O

so the rules we have in place can just be ignored on a whim?

i guess you're ok with Hillary using a private server for her emails then? or do the rules only matter when it's not president trump?

alasdair

so it’s ok for the president to break the rules as long as they’re minor...

It's ok to break the rules to hinder or malign a president, so long as you don't like him? See Mueller, Schiff, Pelosi, et al.

what about the law? ok to break the law as long as it’s minor?

alasdair

Should we not enforce EVERY law?
