Happy New Year Bluelight!

Lets all look forward to another season of The Presidential Apprentice as President Trump either makes America great again... or makes Russia great again, depending on where you stand in politics. :)

As in the last thread, please pretty please try not to ad-hom or troll each other.

Previous thread is here

Last posts were...

If he really wanted to make America great again he would resign and take those retarded rugrats with him... Before Russia elected him... America was already great. They want to go back to the 1930's before women, blacks, and minorities could vote. To the maga idiots that was America at its best. Fuck the wall... I'll be pissing on that hat...all fucking day!

"Retarded rugrats" is a rather harsh description of his genitalia, don't you think?

This thread should be renamed the bash president trump thread and dont dare support him cus the moderator likes to think shes in with the left or something lmao

4 mods to CE&P. 2 are women, 1 is male, last one the jury is out on.

we try to be civil and discuss things fairly, in perspective and within the realm of political debate in good faith; very hard when trump gives us so much crap to throw back at him.

kinda like when a blonde throws a grenade at you.

Hey bro, fully half the country didn't vote for him. His approval rating stays under 40%. In a harm reduction forum, you're going to find a higher proportion of open minds, which equals intelligence imo. Of course BL isn't teeming with Trump fans. His "presidency" if one can even call it that has been a trainwreck within a nightmare. So it's not about a moderator (who is fully entitled to be in with the left whatever that means). This thread got so much action last year because it's popular. Why is it popular? Because there's a LOT of people who are frustrated, incredulous, scared, and angry thanks to his actions. Don't put down the mod just cause you don't like the thread.

Actually I tried not to overly attack trump in my above post, cause I figured some people here support him and I didn't wanna overly combine a moderator action with a personal political opinion. Yes I compared the administration to a reality TV show. But.... The president is a former reality TV show star! Of a show where he's notable for firing people. With an administration that keeps losing people month to month like reality TV show contestents! That's not an opinion, that's the reality regardless of if you think it's trumps fault or not. Or that it reflects directly on trumps competency or not.

But honestly, you can't really be surprised that a drug forum would have generally left wing leanings. I have some traditionally right wing opinions that aren't very popular among the generally left bluelight user base. But naturally there's going to be a significant number who disagree with those beliefs. Likewise, there's going to be a lot of people unhappy with trumps presidency.

Though personally I have trouble thinking of bashing trump as aligned politically left or right. I find it truly astounding that anyone on the right (and especially the Christian right) would side with Trump either.

Trumps a republican in name only. Sure he has some right wing aligned politics. But it's not out of some belief in America or capitalism or god or that the right is a more sensible political view point in principle.

Cant you see its all entirely self serving? Trumps only loyalty is to Trump. He is loyal to his own narcissistic trump centric ideology. He's not an ally of the right, he's using the right to get what he wants. I mean think about it, trump is friendly to Russia but hostile to our NATO allies. When the fuck did that become a right wing opinion? And as for his personal supporters. They're just fuel for his ego. Nothing more. Trump is friendly to people so long as they boost his ego. As soon as that ceases to be the case they become his enemy. No doubt hostile intelligence agencies realize this character trait and use it against us.

In some ways I think long term he is a greater liability to the right than the left. If trumps administration undergoes some major humiliation and gets impeached or does something so stupid most of the right can't abide it either, it could damage the American right for years to come.

It's true, more and more Republicans are bashing Trump because they're fed up with this whole situation. I mean the guy can't even find people to fill vacated positions anymore, no one will be his chief of staff. And ex-staffers have some pretty harsh things to say. So, either every single person claiming he's like an overgrown baby, narcissistic, impulsive, has no idea what he's doing, and so on are all lying as part of some vast conspiracy from all sides to discredit Trump and make him seem this way... or else Trump really is those things. Occam's Razor... the second is by far the most likely.

Anyway, there are no rules against bashing politicians in here, nor should there be. Trump isn't a member of Bluelight, he's the president of the United States and we should be able to be free to vent our frustrations or sing our praises as we see fit. Now, if I started calling you names, I'd be crossing the line and breaking the rules. But I'm not. :)

Speaking of which...

Nearly half of Trump's Cabinet is now 'acting'

President Trump starts 2019 with a bunch of new faces in his Cabinet, though almost all of them have "acting" appended to their titles. At a rambling, televised 95-minute Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal notes, Trump was surrounded by Acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler, Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, and Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan.

Some of the acting officials have been acting for a while, like Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist, who's nearing the end of his allowed 210 days as acting EPA chief. Others, like Bernhardt, took over more recently; his predecessor, Ryan Zinke, left his office Wednesday after writing an official resignation note in red Sharpie. The rules about how long someone can serve in an acting capacity are kind of complicated, but you can puzzle through them at Lawfare.

I love blurbs.

I hate trump. But its pretty sad that nobody in the media hardly mentioned criminal justice reform that he supported. Im starting to umderstamd why he calls it fake news. Basically we have fake news and racist news.

The media is the enemy of the people...i agree with him on that point also

These are mainstream outlets:

Politically, Republicans (particularly Senate Republicans) don't want to look soft on crime, so they didn't say much. Trump was grousing about Kushner looking good instead of him, and was tweeting about something else thus focusing the news elsewhere. Dems said a few things about bipartisan blah blah. Check the linked thread.

Reality: No one wants to take credit for the first re-offender comes back because of a violent crime.

Also, if Kushner's dad hadn't been a horrible person, this legislation would have never come into being. Odd thought.

so the current acting dod chief is a former boeing executive.

the epa is run by a former coal lobbyist.

hhs is run by a former pharm lobbyist and drug company executive.

interior will be run by a former oil lobbyist.

and education is run by somebody with links to student a debt company who seems determined to gut student protections.

the swamp draining continues!

in my experience, they won't. they just don't care. anything he says or does goes.

but the group for whom this is true is shrinking and a lot of right-leaners - and, more importantly, independents - who can tolerate his actions and appointments have had enough.

nobody mentioned it?

that's nonsense.

e.g. these bastions of 'fake news'

Trump signs bipartisan criminal justice bill amid partisan rancor over stopgap spending measure
Trump Embraces a Path to Revise U.S. Sentencing and Prison Laws
Trump announces support for bipartisan prison reform

but let's also try to keep this in perspective - the heavy lifting on this was carried out by congress.

The media is the enemy of the people...i agree with him on that point also
that is such a vague generalization. second time of asking: from which sources do you get your news?

alasdair

The only news i willfully look at is the local news or listening to npr driving into work. Its hard to not to be exposed to the fake news (cnn) and the racist news (fox) though.

I really dont care about fringe news outlets that might be reporting about government corruption. Since an i significant portion of the population consumes them, they are basically useless. They either have to become more exposed or the MSM has to report on government corruption.

they're the media so they're the enemy of the people...

the mainstream media isn't reporting on government corruption? sure they are - it just gets labeled 'fake news' by trump and his supporters because they don't like it.

Beautifully summed up. Speaks for itself. 45 is nothing but a shady businessman, with his favors (appointments) up for the highest bidder.

I listen to NPR, and I get news from CNN and the NYT, among other sources. CNN isn't fake news. That's a term dreamed up by Trump to discredit anyone who reports what is actually going on. For as much as people think Trump is "dumb", he is not. He knows that repeatedly, loudly issuing a blanket discrediting of anyone critical of him is much more effective than defending himself. This way, he never acknowledges any accusations leveled against him. He simply counter attacks.
