Tensions escalate at US-Mexico border

Tensions ramped up at the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday as U.S. authorities shut down one of the busiest ports of entry in the world and fired tear gas at a group of Central American migrants.

Migrants dispersed as the wind carried the tear gas across the border, causing some children to cry and choke as their parents held them tightly, the Associated Press reported.

Thousands of migrants have been camped out in squalid conditions in a Tijuana sports stadium for more than a week, according to The New York Times. Members of the so-called migrant caravan, they are seeking asylum in the U.S. as they escape rampant poverty and violence in their home countries.

Apparently rubber bullets were fired as a peaceful protest broke up.

they opened up the border again

a bunch of cilantro and fruits like bananas that we buy here in socal that are made in mexico would have started to spoil and it would have made trump look like a fucking dumbass.

he has no comprehension about how local economies work. No idea about global trade. He's never been to a grocery store before, ala the "you need an ID to buy a box of cereal" comment that he doubled down on.

Trump can't grasp that we could need Mexico!

I read this but didn't post it because I knew it was in negotiations and "tentative", and therefore it wouldn't happen:

Mexico agrees to hold asylum-seekers at border

Negotiations over the asylum deal have been complicated by Mexico?s presidential transition, the Mexican official said, and probably won?t be announced until after L?pez Obrador is sworn in Dec. 1. Representatives of the coming administration, while deeply involved, have been been operating in a diplomatic gray area while current president, Enrique Pe?a Nieto, is in power.

L?pez Obrador ? a left-wing populist who has pledged to stand up to Trump and root out corruption in Mexico ? recognized that dealing with the migrant crisis will require cooperation, and saw it as an opportunity to negotiate with Trump from the outset, the Mexican official said.

?You cannot say it?s a Mexican problem, a U.S. problem. It?s a problem that involves us all,? the official said. ?Either you sit at the table or you?re a part of the menu.?

Advocates still will likely challenge Trump?s plan, arguing that asylum-seekers are required to remain in the U.S. Federal law states that asylum-seekers ?shall be detained for further consideration of the application.? If it?s determined the person does not have a ?credible fear of persecution,? the law says, that person will be ?removed from the United States without further hearing or review.?

?That?s where you get into legally dubious territory,? said Jennifer Quigley, a strategist for Human Rights First.

US law is perfectly clear on this point.

This is too funny :D:

...The president has also managed to anger many in his own party after he criticized the ninth circuit court of appeals. On Wednesday, former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele tweeted Trump should “just shut the hell up and get on the helicopter. Give us a rest from your crazy. You don’t know the 9th circuit from a circuit breaker. It’s Thanksgiving for crying out loud. Let us be thankful for your silence. You’ve said enough this week.”

Trump was also scolded by George W. Bush-appointed Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts for his comments about the ninth circuit court of appeals...

LOL

He doesn't even know what a CIRCUIT BREAKER is. Do you think the man can even comprehend electricity?

Being born with the silver spoon in your mouth means you will be STUPID for life, constantly shouting at others like an over-sized baby to get what you want out of others, without any knowledge of how the REAL WORLD WORKS and OPERATES around you.

I am SO THANKFUL to not be rich, so that I developed my mind and am at least AVERAGE INTELLIGENT. I'm not a genius. I know people who are geniuses. I also see low IQ people enough to know who isn't smart. People like DeVos and Trump are FUCKING MORONS. The other more evil genius types on capitol hill have a bit more brains but still they're not geniuses, i.e. McConnell, Sessions etc but we're rolling them out as fast as we can. PLEASE SHAME MCCONNELL IN PUBLIC at any restaurant you can. Don't throw his leftovers, use your WORDS and not your hands, please.

I buy my Froot Loops black market down by the docks at Port Canaveral - no ID needed.

LOL

Did the same guy sell you a bag of oranges? =D

Tina Brown, editor of Vanity Fair back in the 80s was on Morning Joe today talking about a series of articles the magazine produced on Trump. One of my favorite quotes came from The Donald's brother himself, Robert, "Donald was the child that would throw the cake at the birthday parties." Brown also said after an article that wasn't particularly flattering was published (I can't remember the author but it might have been Marie Brenner) Trump dumped a glass of wine down her back at a dinner party. Brown went on to say that was the first time she had witnessed the bullying, boorish and juvenile behavior that has become the hallmark of candidate and now President Trump.

No need. For oranges I just hop over the neighbors fence. I grab a couple of grapefruit and lemons while I'm at it.

GM tax cuts go to CLOSE AMERICAN FACTORIES.

How's that for your trickle down economics, moron-Trump?

And I love how the DJI is up 300 points. All the fat cats drive teslas and are like "What's gasoline?" I love it.

The people who every day buy and sell tons of stock are worth big $$$. They don't give a shit about you as a tiny cog in the system. You don't want big gains/losses. They're just here in the now to make some $$$ and run off with it. You want a steady bear market, not a bull market.

Trump gambled and lost BIG TIME on the economy.

Tensions With China, Putin Meeting To Dominate Trump's G-20 Trip

Here's what is prominent on the meetings agenda for Trump:

China: ...When Trump sits down for dinner with Xi, trade will be on the menu. The United States and China are in the midst of a trade fight that is scheduled to escalate Jan. 1. That's when the 10 percent tariffs the Trump administration imposed on Chinese goods are set to amp up to 25 percent. And if that were to happen, China would inevitably retaliate, as it already has for earlier U.S. tariff announcements...

...Major sticking points include intellectual property theft, forced technology transfers, tariffs and other barriers to free and fair trade...

[According to a China trade expert from the Brookings Institution], "The markets are looking for some kind of dialing down of the rhetoric, and in particular markets are hoping there will not be an escalation of U.S. tariffs on Jan. 1," Dollar said...

Russia: ...This new meeting comes as Russian aggression toward Ukraine recently intensified. Over the weekend, Russian vessels reportedly fired on Ukrainian ships in the Black Sea, seizing three vessels and injuring Ukrainian sailors.

U.S. officials all the way up to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo strongly condemned the Russian action, and in an interview with The Washington Post, President Trump said he was even considering pulling out of the Putin meeting in Argentina as a result. "Maybe I won't have the meeting," Trump said. "Maybe I won't even have the meeting. We're going to see."

"I don't like that aggression," Trump said in his Post interview. "I don't want that aggression at all."

For his part, Putin has blamed Ukraine for the incident, accusing the Ukrainian president of orchestrating the whole thing for political gain.

As of now, the Trump-Putin meeting is still on.

If it does happen, one open question is whether Trump will confront Putin on Russia's provocative actions against Ukraine or defer to his denials, once again.

Let's watch Trump try to stand up to Putin. :\

AP Article in today's Orlando Sentinel

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — President Donald Trump abruptly canceled a planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as he headed to the Group of 20 Nations summit Thursday, citing Russia’s seizure of Ukrainian vessels as a source of tension in a relationship he has fostered in the face of criticism.
Trump tweeted his decision from Air Force One shortly after his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, revealed he had lied to Congress to cover up that he was negotiating a real estate deal in Moscow on Trump’s behalf during the Republican presidential primary in 2016.

The news ensured any meeting with Putin would spotlight the special counsel’s investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow during the campaign. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and on Thursday called Cohen a “weak person” looking for a reduced sentence. The last-minute move kicked off a global economic meeting expected to be dominated by Trump’s seat-of-his-pants diplomacy. The Putin meeting — a continuation of a controversial summit between the two in July — was just one of a series of high-stakes items on Trump’s agenda, which also includes talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on how to ease a rising trade war.

Although Trump had previously floated canceling the meeting with Putin, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters he did not make the final decision until boarding the plane for Argentina and speaking with national security adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The Kremlin said it had not been formally notified of the decision, which came hours after Moscow said the meeting was on track.

“I look forward to a meaningful Summit again as soon as this situation is resolved!” Trump tweeted from Air Force One. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko praised Trump on Twitter, saying, “This is how great leaders act!” Sanders said that two of Trump’s planned bilateral meetings — with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and South Korea’s Moon Jae-in — also had been canceled. Trump will instead speak informally with those leaders at the conference. She did not offer any explanation for those changes to the schedule.

The stakes for the sit-down between Putin and Trump were raised this week by Russia’s stepped-up aggression in the Kerch Strait, stemming from its years long occupation of Eastern Ukraine. Russia recently seized three Ukrainian vessels and crews. Russia said Ukraine didn’t have permission to pass between Russia’s mainland and the Crimean Peninsula. Ukraine insisted its vessels abided by maritime laws.

Tensions had already been high over the war in Syria and allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race. Trump has sought to improve the relationship with Putin, but was roundly criticized after the July summit in Helsinki for failing to publicly denounce Russia’s interference and appearing to accept Putin’s denials of such activity.
While Trump’s statement was strongly worded, he has made similarly dramatic moves before only to walk them back. In the spring he canceled a planned summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, only to revive the meeting a week later.

The G-20 meeting in Buenos Aires comes amid growing economic uncertainty and global displeasure with Trump’s trade policy. The most pressing issue on Trump’s packed schedule of meetings is whether he can reach a detente with Xi over trade after months in which both sides have raised tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of each other’s goods, shaking financial markets and threatening the global economy. Without an agreement, the U.S. is set to increase the tariffs on Jan. 1.

Departing the White House on Thursday, Trump said he was “very close” to a deal with China, but added, “I don’t know that I want to do it, because what we have right now is billions and billions of dollars coming in to the United States in the form of tariffs or taxes.”

On the ground for just two days, Trump is packing every moment with diplomacy, conducting bilateral meetings with numerous world leaders as well as group events.

Trump’s visit will also put him in the same room as Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the first time since the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. While no official sit-down is scheduled, Trump has kept the door open to a casual meeting.
