The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

^ Watch his latest immigration commercials; when talking about the wall, a Hispanic criminal (in prison) makes comments, and it says he'll (Trump) will protect us, implying all immigrants or Hispanic people are violent criminal

This man is poison. It won't surprise me if the cdc supervises his next trip to the red state of Atlanta

I'm sorry, the man's sick, and he's already made it harder for the poor (check his policies, or try being poor) Piece of crap. With an S

My thoughts exactly! Spot on!

Do you know how many years Obama supporters watched Obama try to work with Republicans while we're yelling at the TV?.. "They're not going to work with you... wake up. They are trying to destroy you." And they tried everyday. And he still got the economy back up and rolling. The same economy Trump is trying to take credit for now. The same economy that was losing 750,000 jobs a month when Obama took office... which he turned around into positive job growth every month until he left.

Either you give all Presidents credit for the economy, or you give credit to none of them. Be fair about it. To give Obama credit and then say Trump is trying to take credit after being in for a year and a half...that's not looking at things fairly. For myself, I've stated elsewhere, I don't give any President much credit or blame for the economy. They have an effect, but it is much smaller than they can influence, IMO. But at least I view President's equally in their ability to effect the economy. Seems you do not.

Never has any president ever been treated like that. I watched for eight years as they bashed this man and his beautiful black family daily. The Tea Party lynching dummys that look like a monkey Obama in trees like the KKK would do. Cartoons that try to make him look like a monkey. Calling his wife moooooochelle Obama and saying she looked like a man. Calling him a Muslim terrorist who is not a REAL American... daily. Oh I remember everything they did to that man. It was disgusting. And even after all of that abuse Obama still remained calm and cool. He still stood tall and strong. A very good proud and smart black man.

You're dead right, Obama was our first 'black President' and as such he faced a LOT of racism, and he stood tall through it all without stooping to the level of those spewing it. That's what I mean about 'how you carry yourself', regardless of what others do. I'll give Obama and his wife a lot of credit on that count.

Avoided me? That's fine. I have no enemies and waaaay too many friends and allies as it is. I'm not trippin' cuz I don't need anymore. I'm good. I'm not trying to be rude here but what gave you the impression that I wanted to discuss anything? I'm not going to change your mind and you definitely are not changing mine. There's nothing to discuss. Trump is a horrible human being. Most of the time I don't even think he's human.

I haven't said you're rude, but if that was interpreted, please understand that's not my intent at all. I view discussion forums like this as a place to share ideas and kinda, idunno....discuss things? If someone wants to shout their views from a soapbox and wear earmuffs to responses, I have no time for them. I'm in here to learn things which challenge my view of the world, educate me, and allow me to grow. If someone is unwilling to listen to others and believes their perspective is complete then why are they here other than their own ego need to be heard? See that's the key between you and me, and what I find hard to deal with "I'm not going to change your mind and you definitely are not changing mine". You're wrong about me, my mind is never set in stone about anything - my mind can be changed, because I want to learn and grow. You, by your own words, have reached enlightenment nirvana and don't need any more information from anyone. Good for you. Why should I spend time with someone who's mind is now closed?

Didn't you mention in another thread that for years you knew nothing about politics and only registered as a (R)epublican and voted for the candidate with the (R) next to their name because your name starts with an "R" ? I guess that would be good for Trump since he switched from a liberal to a (R)epublican.

I'm confused TLB you stick up for Trump all the time but then also say he's "petty" "childish" and an "asshole." Why would you support a person like that? That's kinda strange ya think?

That I registered R for a superficial reason is intended to reflect that my politics aren't deep, nor do I blindly ascribe to one side over the other. You must have missed that part. And, again, my mind is open to what both sides have to say about issues.

I do not care for 'Trump the man' at all. That's why his behaviour is something I will express my opinion on. Oddly enough, that opinion is open to change if he is. Though I doubt he's capable. There are others that will never change their view of him no matter what. As for my sticking up for him, it comes back to a few things. For one, I can separate 'Trump the man' from 'Trump the President', something many seem unable to do as well. So I try to view his policies at face value, then listen to both sides and try to get a fuller picture of what the impact is beyond face value. Secondly, one of my strongest traits is a sense of fairness. Even if Trump does something stupid, I always ask if it is fair to slam him for it. As an easy example, Ali and I have been discussing Trump's hypocritical use of executive orders after Trump derided Obama's use of them. I think Ali is 100% correct in calling out Trump's hypocrisy. But I also look at the fairness of Obama using the tool means that the next President can use the tool, as can all subsequent Presidents until that law is changed. I also look at the people who call out Trump's use of the executive order to force his policies and question the hypocrisy of those accusers who were cheering while Obama did it. It may not be right for any President to use his powers this way - I do separate right-wrong from fairness. That one person or group does something wrong, does in my mind, make it fair for the others to do it. It often isn't right, and leads to just making things worse and worse overall, hence I also point to 'regardless of what the other guy does, how do you carry YOURSELF' - but it's still fair to go there, I just wish they wouldn't.

Vote please everyone. It's not to late.

i really hope the voting public of the USA step up and protect their democracy from the fear, the lies, the hatred and the scapegoating of the trump administration.

i'm not sure what to expect, because there is clearly a section of the population (worldwide - not just in the states) who seem to think fascism is a good idea, and that human rights aren't important and that ecological conservation is a conspiracy concocted by jews or witches or commies or something.

i hate to say "i told you this would happen" - especially when it is something as dark and unpleasant as this, but i've been saying for quite some time that when politicians promote bigotry, they open up a pandora's box of fear, resentment, paranoia and hate - which leads to violence.
in the last couple of weeks we've seem at least two racially motivated mass shootings, a fucking "incel" mass shooting and an attempt to murder more than a dozen of trump's critics.

let's not equivocate here - trump took the coward's approach to gaining political power; he used division, hate and lies rather than leadership - and the impacts of the toxic seeds hie's sewn into the political landscape are only beginning to be seen.

i won't be shocked if people don't reject the trump administration by voting against the GOP in the midterms - but i (like millions of people across the world) really hope that people can see how much this one foul-mouthed dunce has divided their country and poisoned democracy.

i hope that people can see that they are being pandered to, and that trump's defiance is not kicking back at an unjust system - it has more to do with his contempt for average people and the great efforts he has gone to in creating an environment where he is not held accountable for his words or actions.
he's not a plain-talker - he's simply a liar.
he's not a political leader - he's more like a mob boss who performs low-rent political theatre in the highest political office in the world.
he's not a trail-blazer or a revolutionary - he's a saboteur, a muckraker, a nepotistic kleptocrat.

regarding the hatred he preaches to the nation and the world - he's not a misunderstood patriot, and propagating hate was not some innocent rookie error he made with good intent.
he's well aware of the power he wields and the potency of inflammatory rhetoric when it is beamed into every citizen's home, and the way it reverberates through communities.

trump supporters have been committing acts of politically-motivated violence and murder in his name with increasing regularity - and it is time to take off the blinders and realise that these people are terrorists, and it is not enough to ignore them or tolerate them.

trump is not just president - he is also the revered figurehead of a tangled web of fascist terrorist networks.
to be perfectly clear: once they have established authoritarian control, fascists aren't removed by voting.
that hasn't happened in the USA yet, but if people don't vote in these midterms, and don't seize this opportunity to oppose trump's agenda in the ballot box, they may not get another opportunity to do so.
the longer trump is in power, the more he well deconstruct the USA's democratic institutions and laws which hold governments accountable to the people.

this might sound alarmist, but i think anyone interested in democracy and freedom (which used to be everyone right?) should be concerned at what is going on.
this isn't about "us and them", "red vs blue" or "conservatives vs liberals" those are just tribalist labels and boxes.
have no doubt - this is about democracy vs authoritarian oligarch rule.
i mean - russia still has elections, but they are certainly not "free and fair" - they are rigged (and putin gets 75+% of the vote) - so he has a political stranglehold on the country and its people, who are effectively powerless to stop it.

a big shout out across the pacific to all those who will be voting against the GOP in the mid-terms - we stand with you in solidarity whether you succeed or not in crippling trump's agenda.

no matter what happens, resisting fascism is a struggle that will go for as long as it needs to be done.
some people believed the conventional wisdom that fascism vanished from the world with the defeat of the axis powers in 1945, but as trump has proven, demagogues can still harness the political power of long-disproven pseudo-scientific racist belief systems.

get out there and vote, people!

obviously i don't live in the USA, but close to half of my family will be voting in the mid-terms - but still, i'm used to people online getting defensive that a foreigner like me has opinions about their country's politics (i'm sorry if you feel that way ;))
sometimes non-americans take a lot of interest in US politics because of self-interest - ie "are they going to bomb us?"
but a lot of the time it is because the implications of US politics are global.
it is certainly the case in australia - the USA is our closest ally, and the relationship that is very uneven, so we are often affected by changes and shifts in america's politics. but that's what happens normally - and everything that has happened since trump took office is far from normal - the concerns about america's democracy are global.

but on a personal note for me, i'm also tired of worrying about my family, and wishing my siblings and their families would get out of a country that is slipping rapidly into a very frightening political situation.
i don't mean that as some kind of fear rhetoric - it is genuinely how i feel about the matter.
i care about everyone who gets singled out by trump and his friends on the far right - and i'm especially concerned at the idea of my nieces growing up in a country led by such a vile misogynist as trump.

no country is perfect - certainly not the one i live in - but there is something very unsettling about how rapidly the trump-led political devolution happened in the states.
now that trump-inspired killings have become an increasingly regular occurrence, it seems that many of the problems he has helped create will continue long after he has tweeted his last incoherent 3am rant.

i think it would be naive to assume that trump is just a blip on the political radar, and that the end of his presdidency - however it happens - will be a return to "normalcy" (a phrase which essentially coined a 'new' word in american english, as uttered by another lyin', cheatin' [and apparently dimwitted] GOP president).
trump hasn't just "energised his base" with blatant racism and bigotry - he has empowered a movement which, as we are now seeing - is prepared to murder innocent people for the sake of some dubious ideology.
it's not going to go away overnight - defeating fascism is typically a long journey - but the most important step in that journey in the immediate future is to vote in the midterms to pull the rug out from under the most dangerous man in the world.

Man, my birthday falls the day after the election every year. I hope I get a good present this year. Two years ago I got coal in my stocking -_-

TLB said... "For one, I can separate 'Trump the man' from 'Trump the President', something many seem unable to do as well."

No I cannot. He should act like a respectable MAN at ALL times. He cannot even act presidential in front of a camera when it's a one-on-one interview. He's not capable. He tries to fool us but then the real Trump comes lashing out like a psycho. Let alone in front of an audience where the REAL Donald Trump comes out. When he's treated like a God and a king. There is NO difference between the man Donald Trump and the President Donald Trump... It's VERY obvious there's one Donald Trump... The racist narcissistic creepy haired asshole who has said many sexual statements about his own daughter... I can't make this shit up... I mean it writes itself.

On executive actions/orders you some how failed to mention Obama was in the white House for 8 years and Trump almost 2 years. That's a 6 year difference. That's comparing apples to oranges lol... I never thought I would use that statement here.

Trump said he was handed down a mess. To be fair when Obama came into office he was facing a REAL disaster. We were losing 750,000 jobs a month. The housing market was collapsing etc. etc. Trump came into office with a decently strong economy that was getting better every day. That's why I said he's taking credit for Obama's economy. Trump didn't fix anything.

I am glad you voted have a good day.... blue wave!

I'm done.

I think that might be a mixed metaphor. Unless your birthday is on Christmas. But then it can't be the day after the election. So confusing. :)

Maybe you'll receive a Blue Wave for your birthday...! Hopefully not a red one. :p

There will be no red wave. Republicans are spending millions of dollars to protect Republicans in red districts that's not a good sign at all. Even if dems don't take the house at least they'll have more votes to put a stop to Trump's psycho behavior.

@Cream Gravy?: haha, hopefully a better present this year.

@spacejunk: very well said. agreed. you make more sense than quiet a few in the states do based off what direction this country is heading. thanks for being a clear voice and getting the info out there.

i hope others find it to be as informative and inspirational as some of us do. and here's to the continued safety of your family here in the states. if the country flips upside down here, i'll safely escort them back to your neck of the woods free of charge.

He's a con man, someone who rode the long con all the way to the top. If his personality wasn't quite so vile I'd almost respect his game, in a nihilistic-kinda way...

He's a carnival barker, a modern-day snake oil salesman who's been endowed with the world's largest megaphone as a result of the 2016 election.

The situation is very much in flux, though, regarding who will have the most influence in the USA going into the future. Trump's ultimate victory is in no way assured (or even likely, I would argue).

Trump really seems to be stepping up the aggressive attacks on the press and anyone that questions him.

The thing with Jim Acosta and CNN is just bizarre. The irony of Trump calling him a very rude person...

I get the impression that shit is going to get ugly. I mean - it's already very fucking ugly, in terms of attempted assassinations by mail bomb, and certain member's of trump's base being more than happy to kill for the cause.
I do worry about what is yet to come. Shameful - and scary.

^ There's no bottom to Trump and team. I'm tired of wondering when it will come.

Sarah Sanders shares allegedly doctored video while suspending Jim Acosta's press credentials

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders shared an allegedly doctored video on Twitter Wednesday while announcing the suspension of CNN's Jim Acosta over the microphone-grab incident with a White House staffer.

Between the lines: It?s possible the White House and Sanders didn?t realize it was doctored footage when sharing the video ? and thought it was just edited to show the exchange in slow motion. But it's clear that the edits editorialize the incident to make Acosta look more aggressive.

Details: The White House is arguing that Acosta inappropriately placed his hand on the young woman who tried to take the microphone from him after President Trump told him to stop asking a question. The video tweeted by Sanders used an edited video, while raw video of the incident shows the intern reaching for his microphone and their arms crossing, followed by Acosta politely saying, "Pardon me ma'am."

  • CNN said in a statement that the revocation of Acosta's pass "was done in retaliation for his challenging questions. ... In an explanation, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders lied. She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened."

  • Sarah Sanders tweeted on Wednesday that the White House will "never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job...The fact that CNN is proud of the way their employee behaved is not only disgusting, it's an example of their outrageous disregard for everyone, including young women, who work in this Administration."

Our thought bubble: It's been part of the White House?s communication strategy to bend reality when criticized. The White House and its surrogates quickly tweet out their point of view, relying on right-wing outlets and personalities to provide viral memes or video to accompany it in order to help their arguments go viral.
