The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

funny how polls are lies and fake news until they say something trump likes...

:\

alasdair

It's not just Trump, calling anything you don't wanna hear lies and fake news is a very easy and simple way to preserve your preferred beliefs. Personally I've taken to mockingly saying it myself whenever Trump fans point to anything as proof of whatever they prefer to belief. It's kinda fun.

It doesn't help that CNN retracts more stores than it puts out.

I don't like Neo "cons" but liberal shit shows and its stranglehold on most media and all talk shows it would make people want to go someone like trump

Mueller handed off the Cohen raid to the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of New York.

It's what Mueller is supposed to do if he finds evidence of a crime that is outside of the scope of the investigation outlined by the DOJ.

Breaking attorney-client privilege is something that lawyers who then become judges don't easily permit. And knowing what a vindictive, petty person Trump is, one might hesitate to sign off on it. And yet...

The Justice Department had to go to extraordinary lengths to conduct a raid on top Trump lawyer Michael Cohen

And then Trump wigged out.

If you caught him flipping out at a meeting that was supposed to be about Syria, watching the generals and brass in the room try to keep from staring at him like he was a lunatic was... interesting. (We must find humor where we can. :\)

At least they didn't have to tell Trump what a blessing it is to work with him.
Donald Trump just held the weirdest Cabinet meeting ever

Oh and then there's the not so excessive cost of the Mueller investigation...
Russia probe cost DOJ $6.7 million in months after Mueller appointment

The Justice Department spent $6.7 million on its probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election in the four-and-a-half months after special counsel Robert Mueller's appointment, according to a report released Tuesday.

Of the total, only $3.2 million was spent directly by Mueller on salaries, travel, rent and equipment through September.

The other $3.5 million was spent on DOJ operations and would have been spent on its own pre-existing Russia investigations if Mueller hadn't been tapped to take over in mid-May.
DOJ said it wasn?t legally required to figure out this total, and past special counsels didn?t tabulate it.

So including the $3.54 million the DOJ would have incurred anyway, it's about $7 million. Which some of these prosecutors probably made individually in the private partnerships they left.

In Trump dollars, that's less than 3 trips to Mar-a-lago at $10 million and 14 days of Melania and Barron being secured in Trump tower.

Another Mueller expense report is due out around the end of March. Watch Trump and fans try to act like they are outraged!! It's outrageous!!

(I'm aware we have a Mueller thread, but people are insisting on linking the Cohen raid to the Mueller investigation here.)

The part that isn't funny at all is that Trump isn't going to feel less pressure. He can't fire or bribe his way out of this or declare bankruptcy and he doesn't have legal counsel that he listens to or advisers to calm him down.

It's going to get uglier and he obviously isn't handling it well. It doesn't bode well.

Sorry to jump in like that but I was wondering if these srikes against Syria will increase Trump’s popularity. It usually happens in the beginning of most the wars, woud that be corrected to assume that?

Apparently Trump fans aren't happy about it. It would be interesting if he loses his base (apparently some of them still want a wall?!?) because he isn't doing anything he said he would and he's doing things he said he wouldn't.

I understand why people voted for Trump, but I have no idea why anyone supports him now. Right idea, wrong person.

Michael Cohen story is getting weirder and funnier.

So apparently Cohen has three clients:

1) Trump: at least one known payoff to Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about their extramarital affair.

2) Major RNC fundraiser Elliott Broidy; Cohen negotiated a seven-figure payment to a Playboy model in exchange for her keeping quiet about an alleged sexual relationship with Broidy and the abortion of a pregnancy that resulted from the affair.

3) Sean Hannity, who reported the story of the Cohen raid without mentioning he was his attorney and had requested anonymity as Cohen's client.

Michael Cohen?s third client: Sean Hannity

Sean Hannity spent last week ranting about the Cohen raid. He didn?t mention he?s Cohen?s client.

I didn't think Sean Hannity had a shred of journalistic integrity, and it is hilarious that no matter what he says, most people will assume he hired Cohen the fixer to "take care" of an infidelity issue. He's such a hack.

It's what a criminal presidency of halfwits looks like.

That's nothing new. It's still early days for Trump but we have way more evidence of criminality from Obama and Bush admins.
And they didn't wind up in prison or in front of the ICC. So even if Trump is corrupt it's just business as usual (and actually currently less destructive than the others)

Obama never went to jail for dropping 26,000 bombs on Syria in his last year of president they aren't gonna do shit to Trump

It seems like Trump supporters would find a way to justify supporting him to themselves even if they met him and he told them he doesn't give a shit about anyone and is trying to line his own pockets at the expense of the common man. The "deep state" found a lookalike! The deep state implanted false memories in my head! Deep state! Deep state! Deep state!

It's pretty mesmerizing actually.

All of the mamories are false.

True story.

What has Trump actually done that is so terrible, policy wise?

Do you hate his policy and presidency or just the man?

The Deep State have suffered numerous blows since Trump has been in office. But this was always going to be the big question/test. Can a president really stop the M-IC, interventionist war machine?
So far Trump's done well with no new wars. Then as soon as he goes to completely pull out of Syria all this shit happens. Not a coincidence.

As to the damage, most of the missiles that actually reached their targets successfully fell on unused buildings in the provinces of Damascus and Homs. Otherwise, despite the surprise of the attack and the fact (heavily stressed by US officials) that ?Russia was not even warned:?

  • not a single civilian perished.
  • not a single soldier of the Syrian Arab Army was killed.
  • not a single aircraft or helicopter was destroyed.
  • there was not a single accidental flight into the zone of responsibility of Russian air defense systems.
  • not a single used airfield used by the Syrian armed forces.
  • seventy-one out of one hundred and three missiles are lost.
The actual effect of the action was actually less than that of the attack on the Shayrat airbase a year ago, when 59 Tomahawks managed to at least a) spoil several aircraft, b) damage the taxiways, taking the airfield out of action for several hours and c) kill several Syrians.
