Testing question...

I tested a pill with Mecke, Simons, and Marquis.

Mecke and Marquis indicated that I have an Mdxx compound, and the secondary amine (Simons) test did not react which indicates my compound is (or very most likely is) MDA.

I have a question about this though. It is possible to have combination pills as in have MDA possibly with MDMA or MDE...If there was no reaction for my Simons test could I possibly have MDA AND MDMA in my pill? IF there was more MDA in a pill than MDMA would Simons not react at all or would it still turn blue?

Simons is a very sensitive test and should normally react well with a secondary amine even when that is mixed with a primary amine (regardless of proportions).

Spot Tests: A Color Chart Reference for Forensic Chemists by S.H. Johns et al states that dihydrocodeine (used in some cough syrups) turns Marquis purple and Mecke green/blue. Although it's probably not much use to you, Mandelin reagent would discern between MDXX and dihydrocodeine as it will turn a blue-purple-black with the former and a light green with the latter.

hmmm...well Marquis definately turned black, but with the Mecke it was still half green half dark blue after 30 seconds.
