Ok so let me preface this by saying im not really sure where this belongs, so mods move it if necessary i guess

So anyway, soon im going to have to get my wisdom teeth removed surgically. This will be my first legitimate need for pain medication so i should not have any opiate tolerance, my problem is i need up to 45mg of oxycodone to get high so those 5mg vicodins will be nothing.

Ive narrowed my choices down to three and wanted your input.
1. Simply suffer through the pain.
2. Tell my doc about my tolerance and risk getting labelled a drug seeker and possibly blacklisted. This option may allow me to get suitable medication though if my doc is compassionate enough. Im only 17 though and wouldnt want my parents knowing about my tolerance. They know ive taken pain killers recreationally, just not that frequently. Finally #3...
3. Just take my vicodin script and buy some dope to complement it and ween off as my script runs out. I just dont know if ill have the willpower to do that...

Anyway for anyone who took the time to read all that, what do you think?

don't tell your doctor you abuse any drug. that is almost a golden rule.

and from what i heard in the thread yesterday, asking this exact same question, the post surgery pain isn't intolerable and advil works really well for it.

depends on if your tooth is impacted or not that can make a huge different between them just getting pulled and them getting cut outta your jaw... Mine had to be cut out 4 at once and i had to go back to the dentist cause the 10 mg percs didnt touch the pain. But really you dont wanna get blacklisted at 17 id be in a world of pain if that happened to me.

You will not want to hear this answer and so I'm sure you'll disregard it, but I'll mention it anyway. You do not need opioid painkillers to deal with the pain from your wisdom teeth operation unless you have a prodigiously inept surgeon who butchers your face. I had all four teeth taken out, and they were all completely impacted so they were taken out in pieces. Still, 800mg of ibuprofen was enough to ward off the most severe pain the day after the surgery. Of course, this did not cause me to refuse my script for 50 percocet, but still.

Absolutely do not tell your doctor about tolerance, and do not suggest that you cannot tolerate APAP unless you happen to actually have a rare allergy to it. If the doctor has any inkling of a brain he will immediately label you as a drug abuser.

I had all four of mine cut out at once when I was 17. They were impacted as well, and had to be cut out in pieces. I think the surgeon gave me 5mg hydrocodone capsules. Anyway, i ran out on the second day. The third and fourth day were terrible. Nothing over the counter would touch the pain. Back then( this was 16 years ago ) I was a newbie and didn't have any connections for anything else. The fifth day wasn't so bad and the sixth day I was fine.

DO NOT tell the dentist you have a tolerance. Wait and see what he gives you. I know people who have got 4mg dilaudid. Some who have got Tylox. Maybe you'll get lucky. If not just call the dentist a day or two after and tell him that your meds aren't working enough to do what you have to do( school or work or whatever).

Dilaudid and Oxy for wisdom teeth removals? Jesus

I had my four teeth done when I was 16, and I never took anything for the pain. I actually went out the same night I had the surgery. The operating doc was a pretty badass oral surgeon and my teeth were intact, but I still think you'll do fine falling under #1.

When I broke 4 bones in my hand last year I was about to get a codeine script but I mentioned to them I had used opiates in the past (had a tolerance) and needed something a little stronger then codeine.

So with that I was given scripts for 10mg oxys and 50mg tramadol.

My wife burned her hand on microwaved mac and cheese recently.

It was one of those rubber trays (stouffers?) and some of the heated cheese hit her hand.

Maybe 1st degree, only one eraser head sized dot that was red. Anyhow, she got 20 vicodins. She only used 5. Guess where the other 15 went?

First of all, you sound like a recreactional user, weekend warrior, chipper, w/e, not a full blown junkie. If this is true, Run!! run far away from all opioid products, theres still time!!

sorry. sometimes i feel the neccessity to say that ...about your doctor, I would either lie and say I had some kind of pain med script and thats why my tolerance was up (on the hopes he doesn't double check, probably wouldn't) ....

but really 3 is what I did. However Call back constantly and you'll get extra refills and at least vic 10s prolly.

Ya im by no means a junkie, i just came across a shitload of roxi 15s and ended up taking them everyday until i was up to about 45mg. Im gonna just see how bad the pain is, probably not need anything extra, but if i feel like i need something more ill get a few Bs

If you play up the amount of pain youre experiencing you might get 4mg dilaudid I know someone who has.

Whatever you do, never let your doctor know in any way that you're a drug user.

You have everything to lose and nothing to gain.

In fact, being labelled as a drug-seeker is a health-hazard, as you tend to be given sub-par treatment... if any at all!

People argue that doctors need to know about drug-use in order to diagnose you properly.

The fact that doctors receive almost no education in pharmacology, combined with a social stigma that relieves them from work (everything can easily be blamed on drug use) means that his argument is null.

I am going to agree with most of the other responses and say that whatever you do, do not tell your doctor that you have acquired a tolerance through recreational use. Once a doctor has the slightest inkling that you may not take your medication as prescribed, his practice will almost certainly change.
I told my doctor about my marijuana use and now I can't get anything over than darvocet for my chronic pain.

I would not like to go through that surgery's recovery without pain meds. Maybe that's just because pain affects my mood so badly. You could consider supplementing your vicoden with poppy pod tea. Many highly tolerant opiate users are able to achieve a strong effect from poppy pod tea.
