Misc Tapering off cigarettes?

Good job C.E!!

Is Bupropion the same thing as suboxone?
I need to look that one up.
I’m wondering what kind of medication they would give you to quit smoking.
Sedatives? Hypnotics?
It sounds like a weird category of drugs.

Thanks guys. This does help to encourage each other.

I will keep on doing great!

No, you're thinking of Buprenorphine (being the same as suboxone). Bupropion (know in the states as Wellbutrin) is a Noradrenaline-Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor. It's an atypical anti-depressant used to help people quit smoking. I can some abuse potential for it's stimulant effect and it's noradrenaline and dopamine activity.

They just used the two drugs we've discussed already, I think. Or the usual NRT (patches, gum, etc).

Dopamine reuptake inhibitors are(bupropion)used sparingly in the medical realm as things like amphetamines are dopamine reuptake inhibitors.

A side eeffect of bupropion is gambling addiction and other odd compulsions that didn't previously exist. I only suggested the meds to illustrate that they're not a great way to go for anyone thinking that would be an easier route.

How do you guys feel about nicotine replacement in any form?

Well done, guys! We've making nicotine our bitch ;)

NRT didn't really work for me. I think because nicotine replacements don't have the MAOI effect. I do however have an oral spray. You use it as you would a breath-freshener (which due to it's strong minty-menthol taste it doubles as. Costs less than you'd pay for three packs (60 total) cigarettes. But it has 150 sprays in it (each spray = 1 cig) so it's quite a bargain, too. I only use it in situations where I can't really have a cigarette - such as when it's raining very heavily outside or I'm somewhere like a restaurant.
I'm not using it during this taper, but think of it as a sort of safety net just in case there's a really rough day for cravings or whatever.

Let us know how the MRI goes, Morpheus!

Keep strong, guys <3

I will make the MRI in about 2 weeks, I got luck that my mom most of her life worked as a manager at a well known blood testing facility in my hometown and she knows pretty much most of the good doctors, radiologists etc in the field in my hometown .
So I'll have the ocassion to do it cheaper, just now I can't really go to my hometown because I have exams and I was absent 90% of this university year so I got a lot of catching up to do but I am very comfortable with learning alone so no problem
plus I need to get a job ASAP, to get some money for a trip to the uk in august/september.

Since saturday a whole pack of 20 cigs lasted me till today, in the morning I smoked the last 2 cigs of the pack. weed helps me the most with reducing nicotine intake but now smoking it doesn't have advantage for me obviously

wish you a nice day guys!

Sorry you live in a country with shitty healthcare. I live in the UK and am getting an MRI and it's completely free here. There's usually a good 6-week wait from your doctor writing to (radiology?) and the actual appointment. But if you have an accident you get one immediately or if they suspect anything serious you wait more like a week.

we got free healthcare too in romania. with a legit appoitment the thing is that I have to wait a bit and I don't want to trick the ER system anymore because I'm sick of the number of people abusing it instead of going to their own doctors.

so i'm better off with the ones I am thinking of going to, they are really ace in the field, they will take me ASAP when I call them and it will be free, although they sometimes expect a little attention because other people had made them used to it. but in my case no attention is needed because my mom helps people now and then with free blood tests. it's a big firm with a set budget for free tests every month ( free as in the insurance covers it, the firm still gets money but not from you)

Good job guys!!
We are making cigarettes our bitch! ?

I managed to stick with the 12 smokes again!

That is not really that good for me though. I usually smoke less.
When I get stressed, I tend to smoke way more though and that is where I am at right now.
At least I’m keeping it to 12 on the bad days.
Keeping track is helping and is making me think about it more.

Thanks for the information about the NRT guys. I wouldn’t want to use the medication but I am not against using some of the nicotine patches or gum if needed. I don’t think I would like the vaping thing and it is questionable whether that is better or more dangerous than cigarettes. At least here in the US, they are starting to say that the vaping is worse.?? IDK.

Good luck MorpheusP. Be sure to tell the doctor about the dreaming thing. They might want to do a sleep study on you.
You are very young still. I am sending up prayers for you.

Hang tough my friends!
❤️

Well done, PO!
3:30pm on day 4 here. Had 6 so far.
Keep it up guys! You're doing great!

8 till now and 1 jont so 8.5 cigs.

@Painful One sorry for asking you so many questions, but is this medical condition acompanied by muscle spams too?

because when I get in the second "stance" of sleep just before falling asleep when the body goes kinda numb, a lot of times I have spasms, or at one of my legs or one of my arms.

nothing crazy but usually an unexpected spasm and if it takes me a lot to fall asleep it happens multiple times

9 so far but nearly 8pm so sticking to 12 or less should be doable. Craving a little stronger than the first 3 days. I'm not going over 12, though, no matter what. Mostly because we're a team and I don't wanna let the team down <-- proof that we really are helping each other :)

I also experience muscle groups jerking (particularly in my limbs) at night. My hands and legs have an essential tremor constantly, too, like I'm in alcohol withdrawal (but 3 years sober). I've always just assumed it was due to my epilepsy. The muscle twitches and spasms are particularly bad right now and it can't be a coincidence that I ran out of Depakote 5 days ago.

Great job guys!
I only kept it to 12 yesterday because I didn’t want to let “The team” down either!
That is proof we are helping each other!

You guys are helping me. Thank you. ❤️

I’m so sorry to hear that you both have muscle spasms, shaking, tremor, jerking and especially sad to hear about the epilepsy that C.E deals with.
Seizures are so painful. I’m sorry you endure that condition C.E.
I hope you can go get your medication right now!

Yes I do have the muscle spasms. Had them for many years now. I have a new symptom where I am literally freezing to death on the inside. My body is getting so cold and it feels like it is going to stop my heart and organs when it gets bad. It is so scary.

I don’t mind the questions MorpheusP. Don’t worry about that. It has been such a hard condition to figure out.
There are multiple brain diseases that this kind of thing could be. They are all neurological in nature.
It is best to have a professional diagnoses. I’m not a doctor. It may take them awhile to diagnose this kind of thing as they have to wait for it to get severe enough that they know for sure what it is.
However, the sleep disorder thing is a huge sign that it is Parkinson’s disease or Multiple System Atrophy (double Parkinson’s disease).
They are now diagnosing that sleep disorder as early Parkinson’s disease.

Praying for us all.

no, bupropion is not the same as suboxone. Bupropion works but the side effects I noticed were slight stimulation and epilepsy.
They might give you varenacline but it's just as expensive and doesn't work for shit imo
no sedatives, no hypnotics.
you can try bandaids but as soon as you lose it you might have heart failure. Not reccomended.
There are chewing gum with nicotine and these are pretty safe and effective but personally it just makes me want a cig more than anything. best option so far.
and then there is a medicine called baclofen which is intendend for quitting drinking while most likely combining these would make you sick
but it is quite effective in quitting ciggarette withdrawl. However the side effects are no joke. This stuff feels like GHB, crazy addictive and once your box is empty the cramping of your muscles may kill you as a withdrawl effect.
It is a muscle relaxer, that's why, keep magnesium and benzos close by.
Alternatively you could use psychedelics of any longer lasting kind to make you realise you don't want this stinking expensive crap. What was I thinking? Yeah.

Or you could take enough chlorpromazine to knock yourself out for a few days asleep and the worst addiction will be over, just push through. don't give up.

Other drugs might want to excell your inhibition to nicotine, like alcohol etc.

The best solution in my experience, is true meditation. Doesn't cost a thing. Control your mind. Don't let your mind control you.

good luck.

I had such a shitty night, I fell asleep pretty early and easily considering the amount of time it takes me to fall asleep usually.
I woke up in a full blown migraine, I tend to do this from time to time, in the past I suspected that maybe I have to open more windows to let the air flow as before 80% time when I left the windows closed I had a migraine (regular headache pain can't compare with them

But tonight I got one again, sometimes staying in certain positions helps, makes the pain manageble, I may take a NSAID now and then, opiods certainly don't work with them only make the migraine worse.

Well in about one and a half hour I managed to fall asleep again, it didnt last too much but they always suck the energy out of me and leave a weird feeling

I smoked a pack a day(20), now when i want a cigarette i will put it off 30 minutes or as long as i can while doing something distracting. House cleaning, video games, sex, masterbate...whatever you can occupy your mind with.
Im now down to 5 a day

Surprised I've not seen vapes mentioned yet. For anyone who doesn't want to fully give up nicotine but is worried about the health risks of tobacco, a vape is the perfect solution. They're dirt cheap too if you go into a dedicated vape shop not a supermarket and buy one that you can put any liquid in not just the cartridges made the one company who made the vape like the ones supermarkets usually sell.

I got a vape for something like £20-30 from a vape shop and use it for CBD oil. Still works fine about a year later. They all do a huge range of flavoured nicotine liquids with nice smells and all that shit that will work in any vape. You can even import the stuff direct from China and save yourself even more money if you want.

Best way to go imo. Can still have your nicotine hits but without the health risks of baccy.

I had an electronic cigg once, nice flavours and amounts of niotine to choose from but they break down very easily and once again, money was lost, it just won't charge up again : / Fag-stick

I agree with Aeon Psyche about the meditation being the answer.
It is amazing to learn how much you can control your mind and through that you can even control your body and can repair some internal damage.
I would not be doing as well as I am without the Meditation.

I managed just 9 smokes yesterday and am doing pretty good so far today. ?

Yeah, the vaping might work for some people. It is just not for me. I would be more likely to roll my own pure tobacco.
I actually do find health benefits from using a little bit of tobacco.
It helps with digestion issues for me and stomachache. If I just stick to 4 a day.
In my situation though, it is a matter of keeping myself as comfortable as possible now.

Sorry to hear you had a bad night MorpheusP. Those migraine’s that you wake up with suck bad!
I’m glad it didn’t seem to last very long and I hope it is gone.
Yes, migraines are much worse than regular headaches.
I find opiates to make it worse at a certain point. It is about prevention with those.
Try and figure out what makes it worse and avoid those things. ....not always possible.
Pain management has cut down on the number of those bad migraines (cluster headaches for me) and the length of time they last.

Hope you are doing well C.E. Hang in there baby!

Distraction is a great way to intervene the habit. I would play videogames for hours and forget to smoke. But all i have left to say is, control your mind. Whenever you think of picking up a cigg, use meditation and keep your mind blank for a few minutes.

Also your food is an important issue. Because every time you ate, you feel like a hit. Plan your eating habit wisely and avoid all stress and boredom completely and most social situations. The first three days are the hardest, remember that. Afterwards with enough willpower you shall finally be free.
