Ive been on methadone for 5 years, i stopped for a weeknow and i had 2 subutex. I took tiny little pieces throughout the last 2 days. Those are the only SUBUTEX i have taken in my life. Only 2 of them. I never took enough to fully cure my W/D's, i still always felt like crap i was just trying to make them last. Now i have a few methadone. I took my last 1mg of subutex 2 hours ago. I feel W/D symptoms but they are not bad yet. Can i take the methadone now? Or do i need to wait. I was told with subutex you dont have to wait, but with suboxone you do.... Should i maybe try just a small piece of the methadone? Or can i eat 1 10mg doen and be ok?

You only have to wait and can get precipitated withdrawals when you have opiates in your system and then take buperenorphine, not the other way around. If you took bupe, you can take another opiate whenever you want afterwards, just if you take it with bupe still in your system, some of the effects will be blocked.

But if you're already feeling the start of withdrawals, then that means most of the bupe is out of your system, so it wont block the methadone. You are fine to take it now if you want.

So remember, PW's only happen when you take buprenorphine with opiates still in your system, not the other way around.

^ Exactly. The only reason why people wait to dose other opiates after taking suboxone or subutex is because the subs may block the other drugs, but if you are feeling withdrawals like you are then the methadone will still work but may be blocked a little bit depending on the amount you took.

I take issue with people saying "blocked".

Bupe has a high affinity for the receptor site. Trying to use an opiate with a lower affinity will be "blocked" only because it can't bind. If you had an opiate with a higher affinity it would knock the bupe off. When you wait, some of the bupe is filtered out of your body/unbound from receptors, and it leaves room for other opiates to bind.

If you're feeling WD's then taking the methadone will be fine. However, try to wait as long as possible before you take it. The longer you wait the more you'll feel it, and it will help you overcome it faster.

I'm closing this since you have gotten two solid answers. This information is readily available via the search engine. Next time search before you post.
