Ok, I just registered here to ask this question. I've already read through some other posts. But none are specific enough to my situation.
Anyways, swim has been addicted to pain killers for 5 years or more. Taking at least 6 hydro tens a day, or oxycodone etc. Swim started going to a methadone clinic for a few months about a year an a half ago
and wound up quitting and going right back into his same habits. Anyways swim started going back to the clinic again, only went up to 50 mg this time. And detoxed 5 mg a week all the way down to 25,
at which point swim had to financially detox 10mg a day. So anyways, swim's last dose was 2 days ago at only 5 mg. Granted This time he had been going to the clinic for about 3 or 4 months. He obviously don't wanna
be addicted anymore, but today was really craving some opiates. All he could find was 5 hydro 5's. He knows he shouldn't be taking anything, cause he cant find himself in the same predicament for a 3rd time.
Just sucks, because opiates are his drug of choice, and he feels like he's always going to have that craving. Its been hard for him to stay all day at work the past 2 or 3 days. He wanna get to a point where he don't need
dros everyday, but still be able to enjoy them once in awhile, like once a week maybe..and not be addicted. I know thats hard to do coming from the mouth of an addict, but thats his goal. Maybe one day he'll wise up
and it won't be like this. Do you think he'll be able to feel those 5 hydro 5's or was his tolerance too high to begin with, and it still hasn't been long enough to get any euphoric feeling from them. He just misses the high so bad it sux...hates being an addict.

Sketchy,
I realize your'e new to BL, but I implore you to take a look at the BLUA ( Bluelight User Agreement) and Other Drugs posting standards. We don't use "SWIM" here...I think you'll get more out of this forum (including "Other Drugs") if you read the guidelines and skim over a few threads to familiarize yourself with the way things are done here.
This is a very useful, unique resource...one of a kind, really...and I think you will find it worth your time to check these things out.
Welcome! :)

First of all, welcome to bluelight. An important thing you need to know is that we don't use SWIM.

Anyway, regarding your post, it is really unlikely that you will feel much from 25mg of hydrocodone after 2 days after detoxing from a 50mg methadone habit. It's honestly really hard to compare or equate methadone equivalency to another opiate (especially considering that there's a big difference between chronic dosing and acute dosing). With acute dosing, I know that methadone is about two times the strength of oral morphine, and oral morphine is roughly equivalent to oral hydrocodone. So 25mg of hydro would be like taking 12.5mg of methadone (if you weren't on maintenance). If you factor in the fact that you've been on methadone for the past few months, the equivalent dose gets smaller and smaller.

So more simply put, it's possible that you'll feel a little something but I honestly doubt it. Hydrocodone is a pretty weak narcotic, and methadone is a very strong one. Plus, when you take drugs like methadone or buprenorphine everyday for a decent period of time, it starts to desensitize your system to opiates/opioids, dulling there effect (at least that has been my experience, and many others that I've met). I know personally (I take 50mg of methadone, though my attendance to the clinic has been pretty inconsistant for the past few months, around 5-6x a week) that I can still get high on opiates, but they need to be strong ones, and unless Im just taking more methadone, I usually will need to use them intravenously, and I still don't get quite the same godly euphoria I used to. Best thing to do is to not take them if you can. You sound serious about quitting, and as I'm sure you know, it's a lot easier to say "one last time", than it is to follow though.

If you start to feel withdrawals go back to the methadone clinic. 5 mg may not help especially if you have to function at work. Does your clinic charge a lot of money and that's why you settled for hydros? The clinics by me charge 13-14 dollars a day which can be pricey. Simply put, it's just too expensive for me. Hope you can get through this. We're here to help.

that could be a good thing for quiting though, since your toleranceis high you wont get the same euphoria from strong narcotics like oxycodone and morphine becaue it will deter you from abusing opiates again
