Does anyone here know much about them? I was reading through some medical stuff and came across some information regarding systemic yeast infections, and it turns out I've got about 95% of the typical (and strangely unrelated) symptoms. It would explain a whole lot of the medical problems I've had in the past that doctors haven't been able to give me any explanation for or help in the slightest. I'm keep thinking I'm just being a hypochondriac, but the symptoms just match up so perfectly....

I can't seem to find much useful or direct information online, particularly regarding effective treatment (there are a few vitamins/herbs and such, but none of the sites agree completely on what works best). I had heard of some of these treatments being used effectively for acute vaginal yeast infections, but never for anything else. Any input? I'd rather not have to pay for a trip to the doctor's office where I know they're just going to tell me I'm self-diagnosing and am just fine (the medical facilities in my area are absolute shit).

^yes, but throughout your entire body. It starts growing rhizoids in your intestinal tract, leading to Leaky Bowel Syndrome, and causes all sorts of other things like sinus problems, white coating on the tongue, vaginal odor, digestive problems, excessive bloating, depression (!), mood swings, and fatigue.

While i've not heard of this specifically, i would imagine that it treatment would be similar to other yeast overgrowths. Try to cut back on sugary foods because yeast feeds on it. A supplement of acidophilus or eating yogurt will help replace the yeast with good bacteria. Some of my friends swear by grapefruit seed extract (citricidal) for yeast infections but studies show mixed results. It doesn't hurt to try it though.. but if you do, mix it in with some orange juice. It's pretty nasty tasting stuff but OJ masks it well.

Actually, there's a "Candida Diet" specifically for this kind of problem, but it's so obscenely rigorous that there's almost no way to stick to it. All you can eat are a couple certain vegetables pretty much - no starch, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no mushrooms, no preservatives, no acidic food, etc.

i once had a roommate who claimed to have this, but it was hard for me to take seriously because she had also self-diagnosed about 5 other major health issues. oh yeah, i think she was also a sociopath, but that's another story! she took lots of acidophilus pills, cut out bread and sugar, and used all of my hair products and didn't pay bills. ;-)

i have this. it stinks, my doc has told me the acidity of my body is off, so its normal for all this shit to happen. and i do take acidophillus and all the crap too. i cant do much about it until another illness i have (which causes the pH of the body to shift) is under control. for now i use the topical monistat and i always take lots of acidophilus and yogurt. ive also had orla thrush, which is terrible and painful.

all i would recommend is an acidophilus supplement, and of course not eating too much refined sugar or white bread. if ur diet is already pretty decent though, making changes may not do much. going to the doctor is pretty useless unless you see a naturopath or nutritionist who has knowledge of this kinda stuff (ask in advance).

My girlfriend has chronic fatigue that appears to originate from massive candida overgrowth in her intestines following IV antibiotics. Nystatin (nilstat) + probiotics made a big improvement for her. She's now on diflucan (fluconazole) which is making an even larger improvement.

cupcakez -- only a doctor can prescribe decent antifungal medications. The anticandida diet is worthless without proper pharmacological intervention.

i totally agree the diet is retarded anyways. and inpractical. its just a matter of getting someone to perscribe me shit, seems to be difficult for some reason. from my expirence here it seems that doctors seem pretty useless in the realm of candida overgrowth.

i guess ill see how this appointment next week goes.

a megadose of oral diflucan (fluconazole) can kill most candida overgrowth systemicly

intravenous administration is even more effective

so i found some boric acid and it seems to be working. i need to continue this for a few weeks and hopefully the yeast wont come back for a while. i do have a long term perscription for diflucan as well, so might keep those handy since its free and all.

basically we determined its going to continue to be a problem until my "nutritional status" improves, which it should in the next few months.

as mentioned diflucan is useful, but in my expirence and from what ive heard, the single dose isnt so wonderful. im in agreement with EsourceR, mega doses or do something else.
