Survival Horror Games

I just remembered one. It's been a good 7 or 8 years since I played it. On PS1: Fear Effect was pretty fucking badass.
The funny thing about this game is that it doesn't start out as a survival horror game. It's starts as a typical stealth/action game but slowly supernatural things start occurring more and more frequently so that by the end of the game... Won't spoil it.
Good story and cool cell shady. Good stuff. Well worth $8 or less if you can find it.
The sequel hold up pretty well also against the original with some girl on girl action to boot.

Speaking of PS1. Parasite Eve anyone?

I wouldn't say this is a survival horror game... its more like a survival horror-themed RPG.

Good game though, interesting story, and it seems to have been one of the sources of inspiration for the masterpiece that is Vagrant Story.

I am currently playing Silent Hill: 0rigins, and so far I think it's great.

People criticise it for being just-another-silent-hill... but that's the point! The silent hill games are wonderful just the way they are... if it aint broke, don't fix it!

I must say though, this one has the most adrenaline-value of all silent hills, since weapons suck, and you simply must evade most monsters. The ghostly shadows are the scariest so far!

i started silent hill 4: the room
it seemed very, very slow and ive never played a silent hill game. is this particular game worth it?

^ Not in my opinion. The only thing this game has in common with other silent hill games is the name.

I'd say start with either Silent hill 1, 3, or Origins. (the second one is kinda for fans, IMO)

Just started playing Dead Rising. And yes, this game is dope as fuck.
While it is Capcom, it has kind of a Rockstar feel with its sly humor and over the top violence. And its not toally unlike Dynasty Warrior in that you can plow through the baddies like a hot knife through butter in a way that is very satisfying.
Very Silent Hill scary but very tense at time especially during the escort missions. However, some of the NPC are actually decent fighters. You can give them various weapons and they can defend themselves to a point.
Not very far into the game but I would recommend it highly.

Zombie Master is a co-operative zombie survival horror game in which you play on mostly custom maps to achieve goals with your fellow survivors. You have a range of weapons with explosive barrels to fend off zombies that a selected "Zombie Master" will spawn at certain points. Watch out, maps will also feature plenty of traps that the ZM will set in order to assist in your demise!

Holy shit, I love this game :) It's incredibly fun to see if you can make it to the end of a map, and even more fun to see the wacky ways in which you will die.

If you have any Source game (half-life 2 deathmatch, counter-strike source, day of defeat source, etc), then this game is a free mod you can download.

... and there's plenty of elevators that will be your death traps.

</plug for my favorite game>

p.s. check out their awesome epic screenshot thread

Anyone ever play the old Alone in the Dark series? The first real survival horror games. They scared me shitless back in the day.

old school alone in the darks :D , they were creepy and hard (at the time at least) , i enjoyed silent hill 1 a lot too and well Resident Evil 4 its a great title aswell

There has to be The Suffering fans here, this game has killer characters with names like Copperfield, the Creeper, Hermes, Dr Killjoy, Ranse, Reilly, Blackmore, Jordan, Consuela, Warden Elroy, Slayer, Mainliner, Burrower, Marksmen, Gorger, Arsonist, Triggerman, Mauler, Suppressor, Isolationist and Torque.

As you can see, this game rocks!!!

^ yeah i liked the first suffering because at the time i didn´t have a very powerfull pc but that game worked great! great atmosphere and gameplay..nowadays mmorpg´s take all my time lol

Here's my addition to this sinister thread *is startled by undead groans*

1# Resident evil 2. I love this game and I grew up with it. I can play it again and again and it doesn't grow old. I'll never forget the crawling zombie on the bus and blowing the other one in half - sat-is-fucking-faction =]

2# Silent hill 2. This does what it is meant to do - scare the shit out of you. I love it and I don't care if I have nightmares or imagine I am being followed by deformed nurses after a huge Silent Hill + drug induced binge. I love it. AHH my radio is making weird noises!

3# Resident evil 1. This game traumatized me as a child. I thought 'X' was just shoot, but no, you have to hold 'R1' as well. So i had to watch a zombie munch me from obscure camera angles in a dark, dingy hallway - awesome!

RESIDENT EVIL 1 was the godfather of all Survival Horror games.

The newer versions of Alone in the Dark are great, but the older ones were horrible!
