Supreme Court rules, upholds WestboroBaptistChurch to continue the funeral protests

i'm amazed that such a heavily-criticized group (i.e. drug users) - who are often shown ignorant intolerance - should show such intolerance themselves.

i agree that the wbc expresses opinions which are, to most, absolutely disgusting, vitriolic and completely devid of compassion but to auggest they should be killed, injured or dosed simply for expressing an opinion, is ridiculous.

again, it's called 'free speech' not 'free - as long as it doesn't offend me - speech'

:\

I wasn't veiling that statement, I just thought it funny - there is a chasm of difference between knowing you disagree with a sentiment so strongly that you can barely feel much emotion for someone who holds it so dear, and truly intending/condoning them harm. I support this ruling and dislike Alito's dissenting opinion. Does that mean I don't find statements such as the one I made funny? Nope. Just because I want the WBC to be able to get their message across does not mean I'm not *hoping* others get their message across (verbally).
Just because I don't want them to "win", and that I passionately hate their thoughts/speech, does not mean that I in *any* way condone curtailing said speech. Sorry if I've come across differently. Seeing the ruling made me smile for freedom of speech, and a large part of me had/has great anticipation that is the spectacle of WBC, and their opponents, after this ruling.

Put in the context your post phrases this, let's pretend the phelps' gripe was with drugs. Let's assume they posted on these boards.
(P):drugs're bad, you take 'em and you'll OD, prostitute yourself, or some other deadly sin, and you deserve it.
(BL):lol sure, happens every time. It'd be hilarious if you actually knew what you were talking about, perhaps if you had tried that punch back in college, you'd have a better idea of what you were talking about.
(BL'er#2):LOL, yeah it'd be funnier if it were a different punch.

There's nothing prohibiting freedom of speech or thought, but to pretend we're as tolerant of their ideology as we are their speech is just not true.

^ my comments weren't really directed at you - more at Ason Unique & Static Color who think these people should be killed or dosed for expressing an opinion.

I truly hope nobody really feels that way. I don't see any problem with being apathetic about them, however violence is violence (same as prohibiting speech is prohibiting speech). We all need a fair playing ground, and while they think it's funny to talk about the other side being affected by IED's, we may think it funny to talk about RC's, but that's not the same thing as doing it. They didn't set off any IED's and nobody dosed them with RC's, both are appalling and unacceptable.

/nevermind the practicality of the situation - can you imagine the derp-fest that'd be the phelps while tripping?! It'd be counter-production at its best lol, even if one were not interested in adhering to law/fair grounds, it wouldn't even be smart strategy/tactic wise. Of course, if you crossed that line, you're lower than the phelps in my book :/
