Seriously. I agree with both you and axl. The game, while decent, certainly wasn't as exciting as the last couple, and Peyton definitely didn't look too spectacular in his efforts to lead his team to a comeback after the Saints started winning. I was pretty disappointed in the Colts in the second half.

The Greatest Quarterback Ever looked pretty fucking good to me.

He had an inferior supporting cast, and admittedly, he threw ONE bad pass in an important situation.

I'm disappointed that he didn't quite pull through, against an excellent Saints team who played VERY well - but "pretty ordinary?"

Even after Sunday's loss, Manning is STILL on pace to break just about every single career passing record, and already has an NFL record 4 MVP's, and has (so far) 2 Super Bowl Appearances, and 1 Super Bowl Win.

He still has a title or two more he needs to win in order to cement his place as The Best Football Player I've Ever Seen . . .

. . . but, with that said, in the 5-7 additional seasons he is likely to play, I would expect him to do exactly that.

Oh yeah - and he's the first de facto head coach/quarterback in the history of the NFL - that should certainly count for something - it's game-changing.

All of that said - CONGRATS SAINTS & THEIR FANS!

The largest factor in the game was that the saints were able to keep the colts offense off the field.

After the 10 points they scored in the first half Peyton had very very few downs to work with due to the onside kick to start the second half and long time-eating drives by the saints. Some clutch plays gave the saints the lead and put Peyton in a position where he needed to pass and conserve time, something he does very well, but the saints defense knew it was coming and played zone defense which inevitably leads to interceptions even against accurate quarterbacks like manning.

A shrewdly played game by Sean Payton and the play-callers of the saints to have a plan and execute it well against one of the most explosive offenses of the decade.

Also, Dwight Freeney didn't get much pressure on Brees in the second half, possibly due to his injury. Another huge factor that allowed the saints offense to crank it up. The saints pass rush didn't sack manning but they did hit him a few times which may have been another factor in him being out of sync and throwing that interception.

I think this game tied the record for biggest comeback in Superbowl history, quite a stat.

am i the only one who thinks a 10 point comeback, even in a superbowl, is hardly an earth-shattering statistic? i am surprised the number is that low.

The number is "that low," as you worded is for these reasons (I posit):

(1) Keep in mind that we've only HAD 44 Super Bowls. That NOT a huge sample size.

(2) For that number to be HIGHER, you;d need a team going up AT LEAST 11 points (which means they've probably scored at least TWO touchdowns MOR than the team they're leading.

(3) USUALLY, when one team is the first to score the game FIRST two touchdowns (or 3 of the first 4, etc.), it's an indication that that team is BETTER.

So it's not just that a team would have to rally from 11 or more points back, but more importantly, in most cases, that team that would have to make the big comeback would be THE INFERIOR TEAM.

(4) The Super Bowls' propensity (over the decades, at least) to be BLOWOUTS favors the team with the early lead.

SO while I wouldn't have been shocked if the number (10) had been a TAD bit higher, I'm certainly not surprised that it isn't.

is it just me or is that scar on drew brees face fucking sexy?

Welll I just got back home from New Orleans...And OMG what a party!! It reminded me of the atmosphere of the World Cup in Germany in '06 when they went to the final x 2.

Anyways....as for the actual game....the Saints won because, as they've done all year, played as a complete team....there's a new hero every week. And especially in the SB, every big play in that game it was a diff player each time.

Brees played efficient and smart overall....not really lights out....and you cant really single to any one play either....which is why he won the MVP....everybody made their contributuion thoguh...

Pierre Thomas had that one big TD to go ahead after the onsides kick...But he had kicked and scratched for ever single yard he gained....

Lance Moore had an amazing 2 pt conversion on that reception....

Both kickers were awesome.....Hartley was 3 for 3 with all kicks 40+ yards....That amazing in a reg game much less the grandest stage of them all the SB. And the punter who also handles kickoffs executed that onside kick prefectly.

Tracey Porter with that INT.....obvious.....but the defense played extremely well considering they only gave up 7 pts the last 3 quaters to Manning...thats amazing...

The Wr's Colston and Hendersen were very dependable and kept the chains movving.....

Just an all around win if u ask me....Which i love nothing more than to see such a great overall team contribution....

With all that being said....Im actually still in shock seeing "New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIV Champs" Thats crazy....
