Hey Guys!

Was just seeking some info on summernats 2010 or any other summernats for that reason. Do you guys know what kind of drug related law enforcement will be at the event? Just curious to see if the law has averted its eyes past music festivals and on to other kinds of public gatherings. Any info would be appreciated!

The website says you cant even bring your own alcohol in.. bummer =/

Cheers guys,
Lunchbox

The police have had a presence at pretty much every major public gathering event in the last few months and the media are making a huge deal about the number of arrests for drugs at all these things (election year?) so just assume Summernats will be the same. Some of the guys from work were down there doing fieldwork last year and said there were cops everywhere.

Ahh ok.

Thats no suprise, i can imagine there would be patrols all over given the large fighting/drunken/burnout/sexually abusive behaviour you'd expect at such an event. I wonder if they'd have drug dogs at the car entry point scanning all the cars coming in? I'm sure they do relative checks for alcohol but i wonder about drugs too, it doesnt seem like a rave.

Hmm.. All i want for (after) christmas is a joint around the nightly campfire =(

It may not be a rave but the drug taking culture of summernats is well known and it wouldn't surprise me if there were drug dogs at entry points at any given time

Remember... Their trying to protect the public from drug use 8)

I'd advise not going. Just stay home and beat your wife. When you've finished the slab jump in your Commodore and cruise the streets for some Asian people to beat into a pulp.

Summernats is in the ACT and the ACT is policed by the Australian Federal Police (AFP). The AFP has a Canine Operations Team, which uses drug detection dogs to screen premises, bushland, open areas, vehicles, vessels, aircraft and mail centres.

However, they are not trained to screen persons and are only utilised in searches of places and things.

The AFP will allow a police officer who is entitled to be on a particular premises or at a particular place to be accompanied by a dog under his or her control.

Make of that what you will but understand that possession of prohibited substances is considered an offense in all Australian states and territories. Please check the relevant laws and statutes applicable in the ACT or any other state for that matter.
