Hello all, Im new to bluelight so forgive me if this in the wrong place. I guess I need some input since I cannot talk to anyone about my prob in person. Ive been on suboxone for 9 months, started at 8mg, weaned myself down to 2mg and have been on that dose for over a month. I used to use Morphine 60's everyday for a year. The problem is I bummed 2 pills out to a friend who was supposed to give me them back when they got theirs..(they didnt) So I just took my last dose of 2mg. How bad do you guys think its going to be? Im kind of scared after being stable for 9 months. I get the feeling people make it out to be worse than it is. All I have to help with this is some neurontin, celexa(take daily), some tegretol and some vistaril..I was also wondering if I should dose up on loperamide. I could score a few xanax here and there but not many. Im half tempted to tell my doctor they got stolen or something. Any advice at all and I would be so appreciative. I should also add that Im not working, no kids or big stresses so I have all the time in the world. Thanks so much in advance!

yes stock up with loperamide! neurontin and hydroxyzine should help greatly, but a benzo would be helpful too, don't replace one addiction for another though. since you say that you can only get a little amount of xanax, i'm not too worried suggesting this to you. good luck! opiate WDs suck....

Jumping off from 2mg a day will be no picnic, but it's definitely doable. Take loperamide, get a hold of some xanax if you're able to, and use the vistaril at night to help you sleep.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I guess Im so nervous about it because the last time I went through it I was taking fent patches and sucking on them everyday for a couple weeks straight, the 50mcg ones.. and the w/d from that was almost unbearable. Ill have to push on, all I can do. Certainly not going to start searching for drugs on the street.

Getting off at 2mg's after the length of time you were on it will not be easy.. You should have tapered much further down, but what's done is done. If getting more suboxone and weening down to sub milligram doses isn't an option, than prepare for about a week of acute symptoms but about 2 months or more of PAWS. Try and get some mild benzos and or something to help you sleep at night.. it will make being sick during the day much more bearable if you are able to get at least some sleep at night.

Good luck.

fuck u guys I have to come off 16mg of Subs, although I dont have to come off them now since I have only been on them for about a month or so... some shit like that

I don't get why people suggest slow tapering? Suboxone was engineered to be a rapid blind detox over the course of 2 weeks. The longer you're on it the more of a guarantee your going to go thourgh some type of wd's no matter what mg you drop off at.

For me anytime I cross over to subs I do a one week rapid non-blind detox, and I go through no wd's at all, it just doesn't make sense why you would want to stay on it any longer.

Where did you hear it was designed for rapid detox? It was first markets under the name Temgesic which was used as an opioid analgesic for the treatment of pain. After that it was markets for both detox and long term opioid replacement therapy. Also, just because a drug is marketed for one thing doesn't mean that it's best used for that, as many medications were once used for one thing until it was discovered that it was better used in another fashion. I believe that it was heroin that was first marketed as a less addictive drug to help those coming back from war that were hooked on morphine (or maybe it was the other way around, but still...). Obviously that didn't work out well.

While I agree that suboxone should first be tried as a means to detox a person over a ~5 day period, if the person fails at many attempts then they should try a long term treatment with the drug. Since the OP has already been on suboxone for over 9 months, a fast detox wouldn't really work for them at this point. A rapid detox is not beneficial if the person has not had the chance to make the proper changes in their life to aid in their recovery, so it's pointless if they are going to still be a little sick after the detox and go back to using.

The point of a slow taper is to allow the person time to make the proper changes in their life so that when they come off the drug they are less tempted to use. It's hard to improve the quality of your life in 1-2 weeks after being hooked on opioids for an extended period of time, which is why rapid detoxes aren't very successful. But if the person slowly tapers over 3 months or so, then they have time to distance themselves from the 'scene' while having the suboxone to help with their cravings so they don't cave so easily.

Many people get on suboxone when they are strung out, have no job, have a lot of 'friends' that use, and exhibit addict behavior. Suboxone can help them change those thing, so they have a more stable life with more positive relationships, a job, etc, so that when they finally get off of it they have less of a reason to go back to using.

I agree that it should be used for as short a time as possible... but if someone has already been on it for many months or years at such a high dose... than a slow taper is the only way to make it a bearable experience.

However, if someone truly feels that they wont be able to stay clean of off their DOC without suboxone... than that is where the more long-term maintenance comes in. The downside is that you develop a strong dependence and if you were to stop suddenly without a proper taper.. you're going to be in for a world of hurt.

Its just so easy to stay on it..I said "3 months ill stay on it" and here I am at 9. I believe I have fully adjusted to being away from "the scene" and do not have any contacts anymore so I dont think I will go back to using, not after all this. Thanks for your input. I think its time to give it a try and tough it out.

i just tapered off from 8mgs to 2mgs to nothing and the first day wasnt too bad, way easier coming off that then methadone. day two was really no picnic i barely slept last night and today aka day three isnt so bad. Its not gunna be as bad as you think dude
