ok so ive been off of suboxone for about a month now and im experiencing alot of post acute withdrawal symptoms. i have little motivation, some anxiety every once in a while, i sweat almost constantly, some lethargy. i was wondering if anyone has experiance with D-phenylalanine and how well it works if at all. i have DL-phen but it seems to make me even more sweaty so i havnt taken it often enough to see full benifits. so any info would be very helpful

also any info on other supplements or herbs that could be helpful with this will help me also. i found phenibut helps alot but it can be addictive so i could only use it once a week and thats not enough.

I don't have any info on that specific substance for what you're trying to use it for...

But, what sub dose did you hop off of? If you tapered properly, PAWS is minimal in my experience.

My advice would be to find something to take your mind off of it -exercise, get a hobby, work, school, etc.

Phenylalanine is a supplement that basically acts as a slight anti-depressant and analgesic. So it is thought to be useful with PAWS (from any drug) as well as acute withdrawal (to a degree). Whether it will help for you personally is something we can't know. Some people have said it helps immensely and some people have said it didn't seem to help at all, at least not that they could tell. Its effectiveness seems to vary from person to person (like most things). I can only suggest that you try it and see. If it seems to be making you feel worse then stop taking it. I would try it once more to make sure that the increase of sweating was actually related and not just a coincidence. It can to take a while of taking it before people notice results and the results can be pretty subtle. You do have to take a lot of it because DL-Phenylalanine is not very good at crossing the blood/brain barrier.

Note: A few people have a genetic disorder called "phenylketonuria" which is an inability to metabolize phenylalanine. That's why products that contain phenylalanine, such as aspartame, have warnings on them. If you had this disorder you would most likely already know as a person is born with it and it normally has very noticeable symptoms such as seizures.

i tapered down to .25 but i seem to have worse withdrawals than most. im going to try it again but id really like to get justt the dextro side so i can take more without having the side effects i get from the L side. there just seems to be very little information on the internet from peole who have used this.

I was able to find a lot of results just by Googling it:
https://www.google.ca/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=phenylalanine+heroin+withdrawal

(I tried "heroin withdrawal" instead of Suboxone PAWS because it's more common and the principle is basically the same). You could try other search terms as well.

D-Phenylalanine is supposed to be responsible for the analgesic effects and L-Phenylalanine for the anti-depressant effects, so that's why they are sold together as DL-Phenylalanine.

If your side effects are mild then maybe try taking it for a few days and see if they improve, or taking a smaller dose at first and gradually titrating it up.

If phenylalanine doesn't work out for you there are plenty of other supplements I can recommend.

i am not sure about that substance really, but i know what your going through, i was on suboxone for over a year, REALLY helped me kick that shit was an herb called kratom. i got it offline and it took all my w/ds away.

Did you start taking the kratom only after you had completely stopped taking the Suboxone? I am tapering off methadone right now and didn't find kratom at all helpful, in fact it seemed to be making me feel worse. But everyone I've talked to so far has taken the kratom only after completely stopping their opioid... Although I'm kinda wondering if it's possible the kratom I had was just crappy quality?

Also one thing to beware of is that kratom itself can create a dependence itself so I wouldn't recommend it for someone who has already been off Suboxone for a month and just wants a supplement they can take on an ongoing basis to help with PAWS.

it may have very well been crappy quality, i have had friends that have ordered it and found it crappy then tried mine and felt great! idk what site you are getting yours . i always order the tai type of kratom, it seriously saved me! when i quit subs it was miserable. i was sweating shivering, not sleeping. pretty much feelin like i was gunna die. and yes i started using it after i quit the subs. but yes it can become a bit of a dependency after long term use.

ive done alot of searches online about phenylalanine and i just couldnt find any solid experiences on it. ive read alot about how it works and why but theres still not enough to give me a good enough idea. it sounds like it would be perfect for paws. im going to finish the bottle i have of the dl and see how it goes but hopefully someone will come along and shed some more light on this subject.

Swimmingdancer ive tried other things such as theanine which seemed to help with the anxiety some and ive tried kava and glutamine and velarian but they werent great. what else would you suggest?

also i didnt want to use kratom because id probably get to dependant on that. im more looking for things that will help me get past these symptoms faster and help my body heal back to a normal level.

Well one thing my doctor told me when it comes to supplements is that you need to take much higher doses than recommended on the bottle. You also need to take some of them for a while to notice effects. Have you tried 5-HTP? That's one of my faves for PAWS.
Here are some more:
- GABA or PharmaGABA
- Magnesium
- Calcium
- Potassium
- Bee pollen
- B Vitamins
- L-tyrosine (personally it gave me side effects but I've had friends who've taken it with no problems at all)
- L-arginine
- Melatonin (before bed)
- umm... there are a few more but I have a bad memory right now, I can look at my supplement collection if you like.
These were recommended to me by a psychiatrist/addiction specialist/neurologist. Let me know if you'd like more info.
