i just don't think XANAX is kicking it for me. i want to try something else. i mean it takes away my panic attacks but it makes me sleepy. and yes i have tried breaking the mg in half and it wasn't strong enough to take my panic attacks away. so i have to either take 1mg or .5mg, both are as prescribed. And it just makes me lazy. i cant be lazy with 2 kids and there messes! lol. so any suggestions. i need something to take that wont make me tired but take away my attacks. she said i can try buspirone but i have never taken that before. so any thoughts about that also?:)

Buspar wont really stop acute panic attacks. They usually start you off low (like 15mg daily in two divided doses) and will titrate up every 2-3 days until you either start feeling some positive results or cannot tolerate the side effects. ( its pretty well tolerated though). Once youve reached your effective dose, it can take 3-6 weeks to have full effects. Its totally different than a benzo. Works on serotonin and dopamine I believe.

Have you tried Xanax extended relief? They didn't make me so sleepy as the instant ones.

If your panic attacks are that bad, you could take something to prevent them on a daily basis - a lot could be potentially helpful. Maybe a low-dose SSRI like 10 mg to 20 mg Prozac once daily, or 25 mg Zoloft twice daily, for two examples, could help. Maybe chronic benzodiazepine therapy could help to keep them at bay, too, like just taking 0.25 mg Klonopin twice daily, as another example. Frankly, there are a ton of meds that can help to prevent panic attacks, or at least make them not as bad or as frequent. I don't know the particulars of your case. Neurontin and Lyrica might help to do the same, too, though it would be rather off-label use.

But, even speaking generally, taking an antipanic med to prevent that shit in the first place might help you; and, if you were to take one, I'd still keep the Xanax handy for acute panic attack control, but you might find even 0.25 mg enough with the help of another med. Just a thought.
