i can't find the post i wanted to reply to (archived)..... but basically the poster was STRUGGLING - had stayed off H for a while, was dabbling in coke/meth a bit, but knew better, but bottom line was terrified of returning to original state, yet, and this is the part that got me: said that didn't know if being clean off H was/has been worth it because of all of the emotional trauma he's suffering from now/since.
i just wanted to encourage people to get professional help. not necessarily in-patient or anything like that, but after using hard-core drugs for extended periods of time our brain chemistry getts fucked up and STAYS THAT WAY FOR UP TO A YEAR (i've been told) -- it's the difference between acute wds and long-term. meanwhile, they can prescribe meds that HELP w/the agonizing long term wd's that, IMO are almost worse than the acute because at least during acute phase you're too sick to get out of bed, but during long-term you're SUPPOSED to be feeling better, and functioning, etc, and for some that's very hard if even possible. so like i was saying, there are meds they can prescribe to help your brain get back into shape -- anti-depressants, sleep aids, mood stabilizers, etc. it's hard, dealing w/doctors, many of which are idiots, and painful dealing w/the judgment and lack of compassion, but it's worth it to save your life. and know that other's, in NA meetings, or on this forum, DO understand, and care.
be well
