Stimulating vs Sedating Opiates

Is there such a thing? I have heard people name off opiates that actually do more stimulation than sedation. Any truth to this?

All opioids, non-synthetic or otherwise are sedative drugs. Opioids are CNS depressants. However, there is variation within each individual opioid - some are more sedating than others. For example, morphine/heroin are known to be very sedating opiates. Methadone is another one that is known to be quite sedating. The same is true of fentanyl.

Oxycodone is supposed to be one of the less sedative ones, but it is not a stimulant either. It's just less sedating than many other opioids. Hydromorphone is also supposed to be less sedating. Hydrocodone is sort of in between.

Me (And my grandmother) have both agreed heroin being stimulating. Helps me do work, and gets me motivated. She'll clean the whole house geekin..

For me hydrocodone is sedating, but oxycodone is stimulating as long as I don't take too high of a dose. On oxycodone I feel motivated to get some work done.

I find oxycodone to be super stimulating, but than again most opiates were stimulating to me after I started abusing them, because whenever I got them I'd be super happy, pumped, and ready to go!

Also I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and opiates helped take my anxiety away and made me ready and willing to take on things that normally gave me lots of anxiety.

Oxycodone always was very stimulating to me when I was doing it. Not simulating in the same sense as amphetamines, or coke, but stimulating as in I had energy to work, clean, run around, etc. It was very hard to catch a nod from oxycodone.

Now on the other hand, most other opiates/opioids are more on the sedating side. Methadone is rather sedating, and heroin in anything above a threshold dose is also sedating. Oxymorphone, morphine, hydrocodone I would also put into the 'sedating' category. These drugs DO have the potential to make me motivated to work and get things done, but only when the dose is kept low. When I take a high dose, looking to get smashed, these are much more sedating, though. Like nodding out, drooling on myself, taking three hours to reply to a thread type sedation.

I prefer the more sedating opiates without a doubt. I take methadone daily, but before that I was exclusively shooting dope and dilaudid. Once I discovered these magical creations oxycodone lost its appeal real quick and coupled with the ridiculous price for oxycodone, I never really did oxy any more.

Na-na-na-noddin' I'ma-na-na-na-na-noddin'

I found suboxone as stimulating as amphetamines when I had no tolerance, I would be running around doing everything, programming code on my computer, just huge motivation and then the worst insomnia ever, if I had 1.6mg at 9pm there was no way I would sleep before 4am.

Same with poppy seed tea, made me nod out but was very stimulating at the same time, had the same issue with not being able to sleep and my mind being on overdrive, would often get out of bed at 3am with a great idea or solution and start coding up projects (I am a programmer/engineer so this proved really handy).

When I had a tolerance however I could sleep on them.

Oxycodone and buprenorphine are stimulating for me, as is hydrocodone, some of the time.

I don't think they're stimulating in the sense of, say, amphetamine or cocaine, but the mood lift provided by all opiates is probably the driving force behind the whole cleaning the house/doing the dishes/washing the car five times over thing that opiates do.

I actually prefer this, no jitteriness or anxiety like with amphetamines.

Sedation and stimulation can be experienced at the same time. I don't think of opiates as "sedatives" as someone said. They do "sedate" me in that they relax me, and provide anxiety relief, but they aren't like other "sedatives" or "downers". Of course, they aren't "uppers" either. Opiates are truly in a league of their own. They do seem to be stimulating some of the time, but not always, it all depends. Perceiving "stimulation" is different for everyone. With oxycodone, I do agree with the general consensus, that it is one of the most stimulating opiates.

Yeah all opiates are CNS depressants, but they can be stimulating physically and mentally, so you can be running around or can't get to sleep but your breathing rate will have slowed and so will your heart rate.

Sometimes I get a stimulating effect from opiates in smaller amounts, and a sedating effect on the larger dose/stronger opiates.

For me heroin is stimulating in smaller doses, sometimes even in larger doses.

Basically it's not the opiate that makes a difference for me, if I have an opiate habit an opiate will wake me up in the morning and put me to sleep at night.
